Making Your "Net" Work
at FAEA’s Annual Conference
The countdown has begun now that we have entered the month of October! Before you know it, we will be gathering together as Florida Art Educators in the beautiful city of St. Petersburg on October 18th through the 21st! The migration of art educators to our annual conference,
Vintage Vogue: Time to Shine!
, marks a pivotal moment in our teaching year. It is a time for us to be reinvigorated, refreshed, and renewed in our passion, vision, and strategies for bringing outstanding education to our learners. It is also a time of reconnection and reunion. The conference allows us to reunite with our colleagues near and far, and build our network of mentors, peers, and heroes.
One of the most powerful reasons to attend the annual conference is for the networking opportunities presented. Discover and build a "net" of people that can catch you when you fall, or catch great ideas to share.
Make sure to
register
to be a part of this extraordinary professional development designed for and by a network of Florida Art Educators
.
There are so many events that lend themselves in encouraging our members to build networks. From the important division meetings (meeting colleagues that teach the same learners), to receptions and parties (meeting new and old friends), to new teacher events (building your new network), FAEA brings us together to strengthen our bond as art educators. We unite in sharing a common love for the important work that we do.
Our network is strong.
Long after our conference, we continue to connect through email, collaborations, workshops, and retreats.
Here are a few ways to get your "net" to work for you at the conference:
- ask questions during workshops, forums, and conversations
- reach out to meet new people—think of some icebreaker kinds of questions
- join in the conversation
- listen and share
- consider bringing business cards
- practice learning new names (and ask if you forget)
- follow up with new connections, and continue to strengthen old connections after conference

2018 FAEA Best Practices Lesson Exchange
Do you have an exciting lesson that you would like to share with other members? Maybe a unique lesson on incorporating Vintage Vogue ideas into your class curriculum? Here is an opportunity for you to leave conference with lots of new lesson ideas! Participate in in our Best Practices Lesson Exchange on Friday, October 19th from 9:30 - 11:00 PM located adjacent to the Artist Bazaar.
To participate in the FAEA Best Practices Lesson Exchange, please complete the
form
by September 15, 2018.
Once accepted, all you have to do is bring your lesson(s) with about 50 copies and an example of the lesson to share during this event. We will display them on tables, so all interested members can walk around, view them, take pictures, and receive a hands-on copy of the lesson guide. If you participate and bring a lesson to display, then you will be one of first people to get a copy of every lesson. This means that the more participants we have, the more lessons you get to take home! We encourage you to make your display as creative as you like. The lesson(s) can be displayed on a small foldable board for the table or you can just have a sample with your copies of the lesson guide. Set up will start at 6:00 PM. If you have any questions, please contact Steve Miller at
Steve.faea@gmail.com

FAEA Big Give-Away
Hello fellow art educators! Do you feel the need to un-clutter your art storage closets? Thin out your art library? Please consider donating these items to this year's Big Give-Away. Each year this event has been hugely successful and we want this year to be no different. Items can be as simple as a bag of plastic containers for water or as elaborate as a set of art prints or art education books. These young teachers will grab them up and will be forever grateful to you. Bring your donations to registration and we will be sure to get them to our storage area until we are ready for the event on Saturday, October 20. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
