Hello FAEA Family,
Welcome to a brand-new school year filled with opportunities to inspire, create, and connect! September is the perfect time to set the tone for a year of growth, both for ourselves and our students. Let’s kick off this year with intention, focusing on creativity and community.
Mindfulness Tip for September: Begin the Year with Intent
-
Start Your Day with Purpose: Before your first class, take a moment to breathe deeply, set a positive intention, and step into the day with calm and focus.
-
Mindful Art Practices: Encourage students to focus on the process of creating rather than just the final product. This approach can help them connect more deeply with their work and foster mindfulness.
Action Item: Advocate for the Arts
-
On Campus: Start a rotating student art gallery in a common area, like the library or cafeteria. This showcases student talent and raises awareness about the importance of art across the school.
-
In the Community: Partner with a local business or public space to display student art. This initiative builds a bridge between the school and the broader community, advocating for the value of art education.
Strengthening FAEA Bonds
-
Create Opportunities: Encourage museum educators, higher education professors, and retired members to visit your classroom and share their expertise with your students. High school teachers, consider visiting an elementary or middle school art classroom to connect with our younger artists.
-
Join a Committee: September is a great time to get involved in one of FAEA's committees. Whether it’s advocacy, education, or outreach, your contributions will make a difference in the work we do together.
Step into the Artful Happenings Room!
This year, make it a goal to attend an "Artful Happening" at the FAEA Conference. The Artful Happenings Room is an open community space designed to keep the creative energy flowing throughout the year. Here’s what you can look forward to:
-
Connect with Like-Minded Artists: Join fellow creatives who share your passions. You could tour the James Museum together or collaborate on an Advocacy mural.
-
Continue the Conversation: Dive deeper into exciting discussions, like journaling or printmaking, that started in a session but deserve more exploration.
-
Collaborate and Create: Engage in spontaneous performances, group projects, or simply enjoy working side by side with other artists.
Together we are STRONGER.
Warm regards,
Latonya Hicks
