FAIR Focus:  The Investor Protection Clinic / Introducing FAIR Canada's New Directors

Investor Protection Clinic at Osgoode Hall Law School ~ Celebrates Second Anniversary

Have your investments been mishandled? Do you need legal advice?

FAIR Canada and Osgoode Hall Law School co-founded the first Investor Protection Clinic (IPC) at a Canadian law school in 2017 with seed money from the Law Foundation of Ontario and a cy-prés award from a court-approved settlement of a securities class action. The IPC provides free legal advice to people who believe their investments were mishandled and cannot afford a lawyer. Student caseworkers under the oversight of the clinic's academic director and co-director, and with advice from supervising lawyers from pro-bono law firms, conduct in-take interviews, assess whether the clinic can assist, and where possible draft and submit documents to pursue the clients' complaints or claims. The IPC also engages in community outreach to raise the profile of the clinic and its role in assisting retail investors recovery of financial losses due to mishandling of their investments by a financial institution or their representatives.

FAIR Canada congratulates Professor Poonam Puri, Academic Director and all of the staff members of the IPC for the success of the IPC has achieved. The clinic has been successful in obtaining redress for investors in several cases which are described in the IPC Annual Report.

Ermanno Pascutto, Executive Director at FAIR Canada, attended the recent reception to commemorate the Clinic's anniversary. The photos below is taken with the law students and faculty members directing the IPC.

Law students Anxhela Adhamidhis and Aryan Pour-Bahreini, have achieved great results in two recent cases both resulting in compensation for investors in excess of $100,000.  For additional details regarding these two cases  see below for case summary links.
