February 10 2019
Lots of important info in this week's Buzz -- including Senior Updates, details on NAU's upcoming campus visit, and an original FALA "love poem."

First, a few announcements:

February 15th, 2019 - Friday - A Day.  Students will be released at 3:15.

February 18th, 2019 - Monday - Presidents Day Holiday. No school.

Snow Day/Delay Info - FALA follows FUSD's lead on whether to call a snow/delay day. If the weather turns bad during the day we may cancel after school classes or meetings. We will keep students on campus until the end of the regular day for safety reasons. Parents as on any other day may decide to pick up their student early.

How is the FALA Community notified about a snow/delay day?

FUSD will make the call by 5:15am the morning of the snow/delay day. FALA will post this info right after this info is released on:
- FALA Website at the top of the Home page,
- FALA Facebook and Instagram accounts,
- FALA Main phone line,
- Community email message,
- and on KNAU
CAVIAT Info Night
Wednesday, February 20th, 5:30pm – 6:30pm,  FALA Room 16
Students and/or parents are invited to come hear from CAVIAT about their Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.  CAVIAT  programs are for students in grades 10-12.
Senior Update
1. Send Dean Crawley an email with full legal name.  This includes first, middle (if they have one) and last name. Most students/parents have submitted this info. The students who I need this info from I will contact directly. FALA will be ordering diplomas and cap an gowns next week.

2. Students need to check with their Academic Coach to see if there are any final requirements that are needed for graduation.  Academic Coaches have met with seniors and sent reminders to students about service hour completion and other graduation requirement.

3. If Seniors have not done so already they need to send their yearbook Senior Portrait and Quote to Mr. Borham.

4.  Senior Projects:  Please send you project outlines to Dean Crawley.

6. Senior Ditch Day is not a FALA excused absence.  Seniors who participate in Senior Ditch Day need to be in good standing with attendance and in their classes in order to participate. This day cannot conflict with performances or finals.

7. Graduation Ceremony - At the beginning of February Seniors will be given the Graduation Ceremony Letter. Seniors will be getting this letter this week. This letter includes the directions and components of the Ceremony. Each Senior will have a letter read and five pictures displayed while the letter is read during the ceremony. This is a lovely FALA tradition that makes our graduation ceremony unique and touching.

8. Graduation Photos - Start culling your photos for your senior. FALA will be requesting five high quality resolution photos for the ceremony to be displayed while their letter is read and just before they receive their FALA High School Diploma.

8. The Graduation Ceremony will be on May 31st.  FALA Seniors help to plan the ceremony. They will discuss the specific time and other elements that include speeches and performances. Details will be coming soon.

Chairs for Change
Blues and Brews
It's time again to kick off our search for volunteers at the 2019 Blues and Brews Festival which FALA is once again their charity to benefit from a portion of the proceeds. We are so grateful for this partnership and how much it does for our school. And this year it's TWO days. That means more for us to benefit from. So here it goes . . . we need your help to put our best foot forward at the event and need volunteers. Click on the link below to sign up . We appreciate your contributions to the success of this event. And you get to enjoy the rest of the day before/after your shift. It's an incredibly fun festival! Any questions, contact Heather Pierce.

Inspired by the NPR "Love Is" prompt, 6th, 7th, and 9th grade students in Ms. Gruber's Intro to Creative Writing wrote a collaborative "Love Is" poem ahead of Valentine's Day. For a little inspiration, and a little love, you can read a copy of the poem by clicking HERE .
