FALA says Farewell to Larry Wallen
On February 20, 2018, the FALA Board of Directors voted to offer an employment contract to Executive Director Larry Wallen for the term of one year (2018-2019 SY). The Board’s position was that Mr. Wallen’s educational expertise was needed as the organization faced the enormous challenge of successfully adding and establishing a 6th grade program.
Additionally, the Board determined his expertise was needed to develop a plan to create organizational and financial stability. Mr. Wallen was given 72 hours to accept the terms of the contract. He chose not to sign the contract, effectively terminating his employment with the organization at the end of June 2018. Recent events have led Mr. Wallen to further request to be released from his current duties, effective March 9, 2018. On March 7, 2018, the Board of Directors voted to grant Mr. Wallen’s request.
We are expeditiously searching for an Interim Director for the remainder of the school year. This will be advertised and the position will be posted March 9th through the 23rd. The screening of applications will occur on March 26th and a possible interview and selection date for March 28th. We have an anticipated start date of April 2nd for an Interim Director.
In addition, we are exploring engaging the assistance of an executive search firm to assist the Board in finding a permanent Executive Director. Our plan is to ensure FALA has the foundation necessary to allow us to continue to provide the unique and transformative educational experience that has been promised to the public.
Respectfully,
FALA Board of Directors
