From the desk of our
Executive Director
Take this job and love it! Serving as Maitri's Executive Director over the last six years has been the most gratifying experience of my life. As I approach retirement at year-end, I now look forward to passing the leadership baton to another. If you or someone you know has what it takes to lead Maitri to its next chapter, please don't hesitate to apply. The Board's "ED Search Committee" deadline for applications is just DAYS away on September 30. We've already received many promising resumes and letters of interest, but we definitely want to cast a wide net before the Committee begins interviewing selected finalist candidates.
So apply now or regret later.
The approaching holidays (Halloween followed in rapid succession by Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years) are always a festive and joyous time at Maitri. This year they will feel even more special to me personally as I experience them one final time in my capacity as Executive Director. Please mark your calendar now to join us on Saturday, December 17, for our annual
Holiday Open House at Maitri where we can all - supporters, staff, board members, volunteers, residents, neighbors and friends - celebrate the joy of the season in classic Maitri style.
Here's what we have for you in this Fall 2016 issue:
Please consider forwarding this newsletter to a friend who may not yet know us. As always, thank you so much for your generous support of
Maitri's programs benefiting our residents who struggle every day with advanced AIDS.

Executive Director Search
Please help us identify Maitri's next leader.
Maitri, a non-profit hospice and 24-hour care facility serving those with HIV/AIDS in San Francisco since 1987, is seeking an Executive Director. Maitri, pronounced my-tree, is a Sanskrit word that means compassionate friendship. In this 15-bed facility, skilled professionals and dedicated volunteers offer nursing and personal care as well as emotional and spiritual resources to help meet the special needs associated with HIV-related illness with an emphasis on end-of- life care. As Executive Director Michael Smithwick's departure for retirement approaches in December, the Maitri board is actively seeking the right individual to lead the organization to its next chapter. Perhaps YOU are that individual or have someone in mind who you think may be perfect for the role. If so, please let us know. But do so quickly, as
the deadline for applications is just days away on Friday, September 30th.

Resident Spotlight
Resident Lonnie has been a resident at Maitri for over 2 years, has seen his health improve under our care, and is now ready for discharge to independent living. When Lonnie arrived at Maitri, he was very sick and unsure what the future held for him. "Maitri has been a blessing to me and my favorite part about Maitri are the holiday meals and holiday season," says Lonnie. "The staff - especially the nurses and volunteers - have been a great help to me by bringing my meds 4 times a day, taking me to doctors appointments and helping me whenever I needed help. I am grateful to Maitri for all they have done for me, but it is time for me to go now and I will miss them all so much."

About Maitri's Major Donor Wall: Prominently displayed at our main entry staircase, Maitri's Major Donor Wall acknowledges and honors our supporters who have cumulatively donated $10,000 or more to Maitri's program. Support levels range from Warming Sunlight (starting at $10,000) to the Steadfast Assurance level donors who have each given more than $500,000 cumulatively. The wall is a permanent display that is updated annually to add new major donors and to reflect the increasing giving levels of longtime generous donors.
