Hello Friends,
Fall in Bozeman has been a beautiful festival of color! We love seeing all of the bold gold and yellow leaves on the trees that surround the Emerson.
With snow on the horizon, we have been very busy caring for this beautiful old building inside and out. We recently finished the installing a new roof on the entire south side of the Emerson. This was a really BIG project for us to check off of the to do list. While we would love to invite you up on the roof to show you in person – alas, a photo will have to do!
Thank you for all that you do to support the Emerson and the ARTS in our community!
With gratitude,
Susan Denson-Guy
Executive Director

A Year Without Summer
by Courtney Blazon
September 10 – November 26, 2021
This series of surrealistic and symbolist drawings on dislpay in the Jessie Wilber Gallery, link the 1815 eruption of the Tambora volcano in Indonesia to many surprising and far-reaching effects. Modern climate science and meteorology, the opening of the Northwest Passage, the Chinese opium trade, gothic horror, and American westward expansion are just some of the surprising consequences demonstrating the global impact of this singular event and offer caution to our current man-made climate state.

Benjamin Franklin, W.M.J. Liminal Strangeness
by Jade Lowder
September 10 – November 12, 2021
Liminal Strangeness by Jade Lowder explores a broader understanding of self by focusing on how we find awareness of and connect with the space around us. This current body of work utilizes found images of spaces considered to be “in-between”. Their transitional nature has more to do with the metaphorical content to those inhabiting the spaces, or at least temporarily so. Belief has inevitably become a recurring theme in the work and with this series of images, belief, place, and identity curl around each other formulating something new.

Student Perspective: Student Reflections on a Global Pandemic
December 2021 – January 2022
Submission Deadline: Wednesday, November 17
The Emerson believes in the ability of ART to: tell a story, help us reflect, make us feel, to heal, or mark a moment in time. Now in our third academic year interrupted by COVID 19, this is an invitation for students to share with our community how COVID 19 has impacted them.
We invite students K-12 in southwestern Montana to submit original works of art in traditional 2-D and 3-D art, digital, written, performed, and other medias. Submissions should reflect in the student's own voice, how COVID 19 has impacted them, their family, education, or community. Works for consideration must be completed between March 2020 through the submission deadline of November 17, 2021.

FEATURED TENANT
Montana Dream Weavers | Studio 210
|
Cindy Sharp, owner and wever of Montana Dreamweaver's Studio is one of the Emerson’s newest tenants. Previously a quilter, she became fascinated with color and the creation of cloth and transitioned to Swedish weaving about 15 years ago. She started by taking lessons from Joanne Hall, a very well-known weaver and U.S. distributor of Glimakra Swedish looms outside of Helena, MT. Cindy attends yearly classes with renowned Swedish weaver, Becky Ashenden, at Vävstuga in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts.
Cindy’s first loom was a small loom, shortly followed by a larger floor loom. Currently, she has four floor looms of various sizes, a table loom, two band looms, and an inkle loom. Most of the yarns and threads she uses are from Sweden. She enjoys weaving items for the home; blankets, table linens, towels, and wall hangings.
When the opportunity arose to rent a studio at the Emerson, she knew it would be it would be perfect space for weaving. She loves sharing her art and woven treasures with people, and is gratified by their appreciation for the quality her goods and attention to detail.
