Dear Light House Community,

Since the start of the pandemic, individuals and families struggling with homelessness have turned to the The Light House in record numbers.

In fact, due to the Covid-19 crisis, we are expecting to serve at minimum 30% more clients than a typical year.

Thanks to the love and support of our community, we have met this challenge head on. During the past 8 months, our Light House staff have put their whole hearts into getting our organization and clients through these troubled waters—helping plan and implement countless adjustments to our operations while also dealing with the dramatic increase in demand.

We are seeing first hand that the people who come to The Light House are those hardest hit by this crisis. Most are also struggling with the difficult question of how to practice social distancing without a safe place to call home, and with the holiday season approaching, they will soon be facing the additional threat of harsh winter weather. Our programs and services ensure that these vulnerable neighbors have the food, shelter, case management, and hope they so desperately need.

Looking ahead to the uncertainty of 2021, our ability to continue this life-saving work will be determined by supporters like you. Contributions to our end of year giving campaign will help us close this year out strong and we hope that you will stand with us by making a gift.

You can also show your support by starting an online fundraiser for Giving Tuesday or other special occasions. Visit our Online Fundraising How-To Guide or click here to go directly to our fundraising page.

Together, we can continue to keep our struggling neighbors safe, warm, and on a path to stability and healing. I hope you and your loved ones remain safe and warm as well and that you will keep your neighbors at The Light House in your thoughts and prayers.

With deepest gratitude.
Jo Ann Mattson, Executive Director, The Light House
Many of our supporters have asked about Light House Bistrohow are we doing and when we will reopen?

We like to think we never closed! Clearly the environment has changed but we are active seven days a week and remain mission focused. While we have limited public food operations at the moment, Light House Bistro has absorbed the entirety of The Light House food insecure operations—feeding residents, community clients, and managing pantry distribution, which allows us to continue to provide training opportunities despite the restaurant closure.

Since March we have prepared and delivered over 40,000 meals to vulnerable populations, including:

  • Over 90 meals daily for our homeless neighbors housed by AACo in hotels
  • 125 meals daily for vulnerable individuals through a contract with the AACo Department of Aging and Disabilities
  • 50 meals daily for residents at The Light House
  • Management of all other Light House food programs, including our drive-thru and walk-up pantry, and other food distribution needs
  • Participating in "Feed Anne Arundel"
  • 50 casserole dishes weekly to food insecure programs throughout AACo
  • Supporting Friends of The Light House events with meals and special promotional products
  • Catering services for Schooner Woodwind and other private events
  • Selling Light House Bistro signature retail products including granola, pancake kits, and jams—great as holiday gifts and stocking stuffer options so order today!
  • Preparing and selling holiday sidesget your orders in now!

We continuously evaluate opening scenarios and when the time is right we hope to see you all again soon!

Thank you from all of us at Light House Bistro,
Beth Rocca, Director of Light House Bistro Social Enterprises
