September 2021
Essential Partner in Education

For over a decade, the Children’s Science Center has grown to be a true partner in education for our families, schools, and community partners. The pandemic has been a crisis for education by every measure. Recent reports demonstrate what we have feared: that learning loss across all subjects is significant, and there's been an enormous impact on children’s social-emotional lives. Never has it been more important to inspire a love of learning in STEM, and never have we been more ready to be the essential partner in education that our community needs for recovery.

The science center has risen to the challenge and adapted our programs to meet multiple modalities of learning with in-person, virtual, and kit-based experiences. We have optimized our programs to ensure safe and fun experiences by significantly limiting capacity at the Children’s Science Center Lab. We continue to deliver programs to children across our region, ensuring we reach those who need these experiences most. After a successful summer of providing meaningful STEM experiences to 3,400 children and families at the Lab and beyond, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Not only did our audience appreciate having safe learning experiences in pandemic times, but they loved how our adapted programs created opportunities for deeper engagement and social interaction among family members, students, and campers, and greater connections with our STEM educators and interns.

We are committed to making this one of our greatest years of impact, and we are ready to be an essential partner in education!

Sincerely,

Nene Spivy

You can make a difference!
Donate through the Combined Federal Campaign
Science brings possibilities — for joy, growth, and hope. Science also opens doors of opportunity for the next generation of STEM learners. The informal learning that takes place at the Children's Science Center Lab, community, and virtual programs sparks children's curiosity in STEM. These opportunities have been made possible by incredible partners like United Way. We invite you to join us in inspiring future scientists, engineers, and innovators by donating through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC)
As a federal, postal, and military employee, you can inspire young minds and bring possibilities to youth across the region when you choose to make a payroll tax-deductible donation to our mission through the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area/Northern Virginia, now through January 15, 2022. Simply add the Children’s Science Center (#99177) to your selected charitable causes from the portal and help us ensure a bright future for STEM learning.
