FrontierNew Frontiers in Research Fund

The second call for applications to the New Frontiers in Research Fund - Exploration 2019 has launched. It is expected that a minimum of 100 grants will be awarded nationally ($250K total for two years including indirect costs).

Much of the program details are similar to those used for the inaugural call; for example, the requirements for the research to be interdisciplinary, high-risk and high-reward remain.

Important changes:
  • the competition is open to researchers at any career stage
  • applications must include a co-applicant or a co-PI in addition to the Nominated PI
  • current Exploration grant holders (PI, co-PI or co-applicant) are not eligible to apply
Required Deadlines for applicants :
  • August 7: Notice of Intent (mandatory)
  • September 4: Letter of Intent (adjudicated; peer-reviewed)
  • October 31: successful applicants invited to submit full application notified
  • December 10: final application deadline (reviewed by internal and external panels)
**Internal URS deadlines are outlined in the  URS Fund Opps notice.
