April 2026

The Long Shadow of Alcohol

Some addictions devastate a life in a single moment. Alcohol more often does it quietly, over years, sometimes decades. This April, during Alcohol Awareness Month, it’s worth remembering something that often gets lost in today’s headlines: while the opioid crisis has rightfully captured national attention, alcohol remains one of the most destructive substances affecting our communities. Opioids can take a life in a single tragic moment. Alcohol more often takes something else; years of health, relationships, opportunities, and stability, slowly eroding the life someone once imagined for themselves...

John came to FAVOR searching for a new way to live.

Through connection, recovery coaching, and community, his life has changed 180 degrees.

That kind of transformation doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because steady support is there every single day.

When you become a monthly donor through FAVOR Forward, you ensure that the next person who walks through our doors finds help, connection, and hope without delay.

Volunteer Spotlight

Deb Hammond has been in recovery for nearly 10 years and moved to South Carolina from Maryland a year ago. While taking the Certified Peer Support training through SC Share, she heard about volunteering for FAVOR, so she decided to check out the Anderson Center. Deb was instantly amazed by the people being reached, the impact being made, and the work being done. Deb quickly wanted to become involved as a volunteer.

Deb has been facilitating All Recovery meetings and assisting with community and facility outreach as well as AiR events since November. “I am in awe of the coaching that goes on and the progress of the participants they work with. These coaches really care and the quality of support they are giving is incredible.” Click here to read more.

Book of the Month

Sobriety Wasn't the Hard Part: Addiction, Trauma, and the Truth About Recovery by Beth Holladay-Edwards

Beth Holladay-Edwards offers a thoughtful reflection on Sobriety Wasn’t the Hard Part, a memoir that challenges the belief that sobriety alone is the destination. She highlights Nicole Robertson’s honest exploration of trauma, emotional sobriety, and the deeper work of learning to live fully present. This review invites readers to reconsider recovery as an ongoing, personal journey rather than a finished milestone.
