Dear Friends,
Meeting People* Where They Are
* Insert your preferred “people:” individuals, families, communities, neighbors, colleagues, partners, sorority/fraternity siblings, professionals, friends, foes…
“Meeting people where they are” is a catchphrase we frequently hear these days, but what does it mean? Does it mean we physically go to the places people congregate? Does it mean we go to the classrooms, the shelters, churches, community centers, and homes where people gather? Yes, that’s part of what it means.
But perhaps more importantly, “meeting people where they are” means bridging the gap between our own expectations and where the other person is coming from. It means recognizing a person as a unique individual, understanding, and respecting their unique situations, and acknowledging their personal beliefs and behaviors. It means looking a person in the eyes and saying, “I see you.”

Doesn’t that sound like someone you want to know? If you’ve not had the privilege of talking with one of our certified Peer Support Specialists, do it today. You may just make a new friend.
With love and support,
