The FAWL Monthly E-Newsletter
March 2019
President's Message
Dear FAWL Members,
It was wonderful to see so many of you during our annual Lobby Days in Tallahassee this week. Our elected representatives gave attendees the tools we need to run for office and effectively advocate for change. We were especially pleased to have the Monday keynote offered by Attorney General Ashely Moody, Agricultural Commissioner Nikki Fried, and former U.S. Representative and candidate for Governor, Gwen Graham.

We are also in the midst of the Spring membership campaign, which started on March 1. If you are proud of the advocacy work FAWL has done for lactation rooms in courthouses, parental leave, and the Supreme Court this year, I would encourage you to take your membership up a notch by becoming a member of the Mattie Belle Davis Society. We do a lot with a little and joining the MBDS is a great way to show your active support of gender equality in the legal profession, the judiciary, and the community at large. New members of the MBDS during the months of March, April, and May will receive a FAWL lapel pin until supplies run out.

FAWL in Love with GAL Training Opportunities

As part of its FAWL in Love with GAL initiative, in April the GAL Program will be holding a one-day training for volunteers at multiple locations throughout the state. GAL is submitting the training for CLE certification, and it includes both diversity and ethics components.  A copy of the training outline is attached. The training will be free but will only be open to FAWL members who volunteer to serve as a mentor for the FAWL in Love with GAL project. A limited number of travel scholarships will be available. The announcements are being timed to coincide with FAWL’s spring membership drive in the hopes that it will help increase renewals and encourage new members to join. If you are interested in hosting a training, or are interested in being a presenter, please contact the GAL Board Liaison, Thomasina Moore at  for more details.
