MALALA ELEMENTARY OPENS!
Our Malala Elementary "Leopards" are finally home! The school officially opened Tues., Jan. 7, welcoming students and staff to the brand new campus in time for the second semester of school. Check out photos from the 1st day of school and the Ribbon Cutting and Sneak Peek with Leap event.

January is School Board Recognition Month
Thank a School Board member today!
Join Fort Bend ISD in honoring its Board of Trustees for all they do to support students, staff and the community. The District's seven-member board includes: Board President Jason Burdine, Vice President Addie Heyliger, Secretary Dave Rosenthal, Grayle James, Jim Rice, Kristin Tassin and Allison Drew.

On Tues., Jan. 21, FBISD will host a reception honoring our Board of Trustees for "launching the next generation." Following the reception, the District will formally recognize the Board during the Regular Board Meeting.
Throughout the month of January and beyond, please take a moment and tell school board members "thanks for caring about our children and giving so much to our community." Let them know you support them and that their dedicated services are recognized and truly appreciated. On Twitter, use hashtag #FBISDBOT to send a message of thanks or when posting a picture you may have taken with a Board member.

Registration is currently underway for Spring 2020 classes offered through the Community Education Program. You will be pleased to know that we have some returning classes that you may have missed last semester, as well as several new classes. In the Arts, Crafts and Culture category, you will find classes in comics and cartooning and personal styling. You will also find expanded offerings in the culinary section, including a Downtown Houston Food Tour.

Registration for elementary classes closes on Feb. 2, and registration for middle school, high school, adult and family classes closes three days prior to the start of the first class.

FRIENDLY REMINDERS ON UPCOMING EVENTS
Attendance Counts Conversation and Q&A, Jan. 14
The FBISD Attendance Team will welcome parents, students and staff to an afternoon of attendance conversation, data and a brief Q&A on Tues., Jan. 14, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the FBISD Administrative Annex, Room 112. Attendees may arrive as early as 5:00 p.m.
F BISD Child Nutrition to host Food Fair, Jan. 14
The community is invited to attend FBISD's Child Nutrition Department's annual Food Tasting Fair on Tues., Jan. 14, at Dulles High School (550 Dulles Ave., Sugar Land, 77478) from 4 to 6 p.m. The theme for the event is “taste a look and let the food do the talking.”
District Programs of Choice Information Fair, Jan. 16
Fort Bend ISD will host a Programs of Choice Information Fair on Thurs., Jan. 16 to provide parents an opportunity to learn more about the application process for Programs of Choice. The information fair will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. at the FBISD Administration Annex Main Auditorium (3119 Sweetwater Blvd., Sugar Land, 77479).

The District’s Programs of Choice include high school academies, Early College High School (ECHS) and Pathways in Technology (P-TECH) programs. The application window to apply for these programs has been extended through Jan. 24, 2020.

Community invited to Textbook Public Review, Jan. 15-31
The Fort Bend Independent School District will be conducting a public review on the upcoming instructional materials that are under consideration for adoption for the 2020-2021 school year. The public review takes place from Jan. 15 through Jan. 31, 2020 (excluding Jan. 20, Martin Luther King Holiday). READ MORE
