Grant In Action Spotlight: Palmer Elementary’s “Movement that Counts”

With funding for her “Movement that Counts” grant, Palmer Elementary School’s PE teacher Shannon Bandish Nash purchased material to support students’ social, emotional, and physical health.

Her $1,692 grant award allowed her to purchase Action Based Learning mats (keyboard, telephone math and pattern mats) that students access during Planning Learning Communities in their PE/Health class.

Movement on the mats helps organize students’ brains for learning and re-enforce academic concepts taught in the classroom. Students read, solve math problems, and review vocabulary all while engaging in purposeful movements on the mats.
