Join the FBISD Board of Trustees at its annual Listening Tour, Oct. 7 at Marshall High School
The Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees is kicking off its 2019-20 Listening and Literacy Tour with its first stop at Marshall High School on Mon., Oct. 7 for its Listening Tour. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the campus (1220 Buffalo Run, Missouri City, 77489). Parents and community members will have an opportunity to take part in roundtable discussions, ask questions directly to FBISD Board members and District leaders, and enter a drawing for a chance to win one of two laptops. Attendees are also invited to stay for the Board’s monthly workshop, which begins at 6:30 p.m.
FBISD TRUSTEE JIM RICE NAMED TASB BOARD PRESIDENT-ELECT
Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustee Jim Rice has been named President-Elect of the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). The association elected its 2019-20 officers during its recent Delegate Assembly and Convention in Dallas.
Rice was elected to the TASB Board of Directors in 2012. A graduate of Leadership TASB, he chaired the Legislative Committee during the recent 86th legislative session and during the 84th session. He has held several board positions, including Chair of the Legislative Committee and the Budget and Finance Committee, Secretary/Treasurer, 2nd Vice President and 1st Vice President. He has also served on the Nominations, and Planning and Development committees. READ MORE

Appeals Court validates FBISD's legal actions related to discovery of historic cemetery
On Thurs., Oct. 3, a three-judge panel of the Houston Court of Appeals issued an opinion validating Fort Bend ISD’s legal actions regarding the Sugar Land 95. The panel agreed that the District had the right to nonsuit the case and that District Court Judge Jim Shoemake abused his discretion when he appointed a master of chancery and an ad litem, concluding that the appointments were invalid. Annual Band Nights, Oct. 9 and 10
Fort Bend ISD will present two evenings of competitive marching exhibitions during the 2019 Band Night events on October 9 and 10. The Band Nights will feature the District’s 11 high school band programs performing their competition shows in preparation for the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Marching Contest, which will be held on Oct. 22, 2019 at Hall Stadium. Fort Bend ISD high school juniors and seniors, and their parents, are invited to attend the District's final College Night on Oct. 10. The event will give participants an opportunity to learn about educational opportunities available from accredited colleges and universities, and much more. READ MORE
District 8-11 grade students to take Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT), Oct. 16 - Students may prepare for the PSAT/NMSQT by visiting Khan Academy at www.satpractice.org. By linking their Khan Academy account with their College Board account, students are able to access free, personalized practice recommendations based on previous years’ test results. READ MORE
