Officer Gonsalves Receives the IMPACT Award

Officer Elisama "EJ" Gonsalves was awarded this month’s Fort Bend ISD Impact Award for the difference she makes on her campus, in her department and throughout the entire district.

“EJ embodies our department’s philosophy of building relationships in multiple ways,” Fort Bend ISD Police Chief David Rider said. “She is a true servant leader.”

Gonsalves serves as the school resource officer at the James Reese Career and Technical Education Center and actively works with the administration to ensure the safety of students and staff.

As a field training officer, she provides mentorship and training to new officers when they join the district. She assists police officers on the training simulator and during firearms qualifications.

Gonsalves has been instrumental in carrying on the legacy of former FBISD Police Sergeant Richard Frankie. Shortly before he passed away, Frankie created a program to initiate positive interactions between the FBISD Police Department and elementary students. Gonsalves keeps the vision alive by visiting campuses wearing a dog costume and engaging with students. The dog is affectionately named “Frankie.”

In addition, she volunteers in the mentorship reading program at Hunters Glen Elementary School.

National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day

February 15 was National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day. Not only do our SRO's keep our students and staff safe, but they also build positive relationships and are educators in their schools. The Fort Bend ISD Police Department would like to recognize all of our dedicated officers and all of the men and women across the country who serve in their school communities.

Thank you to all of the schools that recognized our officers for their commitment to keep our schools and surrounding areas safe each and every day.

We are Educators

On February 9, the James Reese CTE hosted their annual Law Enforcement Day that was attended by the district's Law and Public Service Program students from our 11 high schools. Our officers put the students through a series of simulations and crime scene investigation training. The students were engaged and enjoyed working as a team. This is one great example of how our officers take time to educate our students and build positive relationships.

Spring Safety Reminders

National Crossing Guard Appreciation Day

The Fort Bend ISD Police Department has a total of 155 crossing guards and supervisors who ensure that students and families are safe when crossing streets every morning and every afternoon! On February 10, our district and schools helped recognize these men and women for their commitment to keep our communities safe and for their positive attitude. They are the first smiling face our students see in the morning and we encourage you to wave and thank them for their service.

National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

January 9 was National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

Thank you to all of the schools that recognized our officers for their commitment to keep our schools and surrounding areas safe each and every day.

The FBISD Police Department would also like to recognize and thank all law enforcement agencies across the country for your sacrifice and commitment to keep our communities safe.

What is Standard Response Protocol (SRP)?

The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is based on the response to any given situation that requires an emergency response at an FBISD campus or district facility. SRP uses specific and intentional vocabulary. The premise is simple - these five specific actions can be performed during an incident. When communicating these, the action is labeled with a "Term of Art" and is then followed by a "Directive." All FBISD schools use the SRP and perform regularly scheduled drills with students and staff.

School Resource Officer Spotlight

Officer Susan Gibbs

Campus: Baines Middle School

Officer Gibbs has a year of experience as a School Resource Officer in FBISD and ten years of experience in law enforcement. Officer Gibbs is a valuable member of our department and is one of our "homegrown" officers as an Austin High School graduate. She is influential in the lives of the students at Baines Middle School. Officer Gibbs is a true servant leader and educator as she has experience as a Community Service Coordinator and Police Academy instructor which serve her well as an SRO. When asked why she enjoys being an SRO, Officer Gibbs replied, "Being an SRO gives me the opportunity to be a positive change in a child’s life. I believe that one person can make an impact on someone’s life, whether they know it or not. If it was not for a SRO that I had in middle school, I would have continued down a pathway that would have led me to make poor choices in my adult life. I am extremely honored and optimistic to be working for the very department that gave me a chance when I was making mistakes. I only hope that I aspire to give back to the children, what was given to me."

Upcoming Events
