Sermon Text: Philippians 4:1-9 NRSV
Sermon Title: "What's on your mind?"
1 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, my beloved. 2 I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord. 3 Yes, and I ask you also, my loyal companion, help these women, for they have struggled beside me in the work of the gospel, together with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are in the book of life. 4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. 6 Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me,
and the God of peace will be with you.
PRAISE & WORSHIP
Prelude          Choralprelude by Johannes Brahms

Opening         # 24, vs.1+3  The God of Abraham Praise

1 The God of Abraham praise.
All praised be the Name,
who was and is and is to be,
is still the same;
the one eternal God,
ere all that now appears;
the First, the Last, beyond all thought
through timeless years!

3 God has eternal life
implanted in the soul.
God's love shall be our strength and stay,
while ages roll.
Praise to the living God!
All praised be the Name,
who was, and is, and is to be,
is still the same!

Special     Precious Jesus by Whitfield/Jefferson

Closing       352 Spirit Song

1 Oh let the Son of God enfold you
With His Spirit and His love
Let Him fill your heart and satisfy your soul
Oh let Him have those things that hold you
And His Spirit like a dove
Will descend upon your life and make you whole

Refrain
Jesus oh Jesus
Come and fill Your lambs
Jesus oh Jesus
Come and fill Your lambs

Oh come and sing the song of gladness
As your hearts are filled with joy
Lift your hands in sweet surrender to His name
Oh give Him all your tears and sadness
Give Him all your years of pain
And you'll enter into life in Jesus' name

Refrain

Jesus oh Jesus
Come and fill Your lambs
Jesus oh Jesus
Come and fill Your lambs

Postlude        Improvisation

Please find the prayer list below, and sincerely send prayers up
for ALL of God's creation.
Prayer is a weapon that has divine power to demolish strongholds.
4 "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.
On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up
against the knowledge of God,
and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."

The Call to Action for Racial Equity and Justice for All!
Christian Church in NC: A Resilient Church with Liberating Unity!
Goal: To be the effective witness that Christ empowered us to be in dismantling systemic racism, creating equity, and advocating for reconciliation.
While we acknowledge those who have already begun conversations
around systemic racism and justice,
we want to encourage the 'next step' actions beyond conversations.

To aid in this quest for human liberation and justice,
the Anti-Racism and Pro-Reconciliation Commission (ARPR) will engage the Christian Church in NC as follows:

What's Next, Church?
After the World Communion Service, ARPR will evaluate and determine what's next as the region continues the work of becoming ONE body of Christ.

This is a movement, not a moment!

The shelter has a year-round list of needs that are always appreciated!
They especially have shortages of men's deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, and socks. Food items are canned meats and #10 size canned fruits, vegetables and applesauce. Please drop your donations off under the shelter,
next to FCC's parking lot, at the set of double doors with a mailbox.
Crisis Control Ministry
Hi, First Christian Family!

When the calendar turns to October, we automatically think of apples.
Doctors say they are good for us plus they taste good, too!
Crisis Control Ministry is thinking about them as well. The food item for the month of October is APPLESAUCE in PLASTIC CONTAINERS. This is a rather simple request, and it can be obtained at most stores that sell food. We are asked to purchase the ones in plastic containers because of possible breakage. You have been so kind this year in spite of the limitations the Pandemic has caused.

Ron always has a “trunk full” every time he delivers your purchases to Crisis Control and the Samaritan Inn. When I go with him to deliver, the volunteer asks where we are from. I am always proud to say “First Christian Church on Country Club.” The volunteer shakes their head and smiles in recognition because they know our church helps to put food on the tables of so many who can’t.
If you bring your donations by the church through the week, someone is usually in the office. Sunday mornings are great too. You can place your items where the display is inside at the front of the Sanctuary.
