YOUTH HAPPENINGS

Hello all and Happy February -

In January, we had a great time studying the histories of popular hymns and we even wrote a hymn of our own!

We know that the forty days of Lent are a time when we
prepare our hearts for Easter, but what should we do in the days leading up to Ash Wednesday on February 26th? How do we prepare our hearts and minds for the Lenten season?

On  Feb 2 , we will see how gratitude  generates the
energy we need to prepare our hearts for change.
The story of a man healed from a skin disease will guide us this week (Luke 17:12-19.)

On  Feb 9,  we will talk about how Lent is not just an
individual journey, it's a  communal  one. Who will we invite to join us in this season of growth and renewal? Hebrews 10:24-25 will guide our lesson this week.

On  Feb 16 , we will create a map of where we spend our  energy  each day. How much of that energy is spent on things that glorify God? How much of our energy do we spend on things that are life-draining?
Isaiah 40:28-31 is our guide this week.

Finally, on  Feb 23 , we will  prayerfully  make decisions about what we will do to renew our relationship with God during Lent. The Creation story in Genesis 2 will be our guide for this week.

Peace,
Kaitlin
Crisis Control Ministry

My good friends!

Crisis Control Ministry was started in 1973 by a few churches, our First Christian being one, to provide food and other survival needs to families in difficult situations. We as a church have supported this Ministry every year since with donations of food and other items as well as it being a "line-item" in our budgets.
This month Crisis Control Ministry is asking that we donate BEEF STEW to fill their shelves.

When we give food, it allows the Ministry to use their funds to  supply needed prescriptions, supply a heat source, or keep a family in their home. You have been so supportive over the years and I thank you on behalf of all those families served. Purchase your gift this month and place it in the white container in the office wing. Your help is needed!

Samaritan Ministries

The shelter has a year-round list of needs that are always appreciated. They especially have shortages of men's deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, and socks.  Food items are canned meats and #10 size canned fruits, vegetables and applesauce. Please place your items next to the white bin in the foyer outside the office or in the church office.
