The shelter has a year-round
list of needs that are always appreciated!

They're especially short on men's deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors & socks. Food items: canned meats, #10-size canned fruits/vegetables & applesauce.

Please sit your donations under the shelter, next to FCC's parking lot,
at the set of double doors with a mailbox.

Proverbs 31:8-9
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
for the rights of all who are destitute.
Speak up and judge fairly;
defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Christian Action Ministry

Hello Fellow Christians!

Good afternoon, First Christian! Today is a beautiful day! I have just walked back into our house from standing in the warm sunshine for a few minutes. It is the second full day of Fall and I still have Lantana blooming along with geraniums! In my kitchen, I have all the ingredients to make Ron his “one real meal of the week” that I promised him at Christmas one year. However, there are so many people, who live right her in Forsyth County, who cannot say that. One of the most important things today for me “to be happy about” is the fact I have everything I need in my kitchen to make that “real meal”.
Putting a meal together is not difficult, but for some, it is very difficult. Cupboards are bare all across our area and folks are hungry. The item Crisis Control Ministry has chosen for the month of October is APPLESAUCE. This item can be eaten alone as a needed fruit. It can be used in baked goods and so many other things. Small containers can be included in “take-along” lunches for children and adults. Why not visit your favorite grocer and gather containers of APPLESAUCE you would like to give to those folks who might not have “all the ingredients”! You will be blessed many times over.

CCM does request no glass jars for the APPLESAUCE. Glass tends to break.

 Children’s Sabbath

Children’s Sabbath is a time when all faiths grow in the awareness of the state of children and families in our city and our country. The date and theme is set by the Children’s Defense Fund. This year’s date is October 17th, and the theme is “Where Does It Hurt?” The beautiful banners hanging in our church show the vision of this organization which serves as a voice for poor children, children of different races and ethnicity, children with disabilities, and even babies.

Our scriptures explain teachings that call us to nurture and protect children. Here at First Christian Church, we do amazing things for children in our ministries with Crisis Control, New Communion, Creative Palooza, Crop Walk, the Backpack program, and helping needy students and families at South Fork Elementary.

There is no easy solution to poverty and the needs of children in their various settings, but every little thing done is a sure way to help. This year, please help fill the boat in our sanctuary with supplies for Newborns in Need, a national organization that provides care necessities to agencies and hospitals serving premature, ill, or impoverished babies. The local chapter serves our local hospitals and agencies working with low-income families or expectant moms with high-risk pregnancies. They also help provide pack’n plays to moms in need through the local health department and Novant Health Today's Woman so newborns have a safe sleep environment.

Your gifts will help some of our most vulnerable.
