Fourth Sunday of Advent ------ 11 a.m. Service
Sermon Text: Acts 19:1-7 NRSV
Sermon Title: "I want more"
While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul passed through the interior regions and came to Ephesus, where he found some disciples. He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?” They replied, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 Then he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They answered, “Into John’s baptism.” 4 Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus.” 5 On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied— 7 altogether there were about twelve of them.

Prelude                Andante  by A. Hesse

Opening # 348, vs.1+2  More About Jesus Would I know
1 More about Jesus would I know,
more of his grace to others show;
more of his saving fullness see,
more of his love who died for me.

More, more about Jesus,
more, more about Jesus;
more of his saving fullness see,
more of his love who died for me.

2 More about Jesus, let me learn,
more of his holy will discern;
Spirit of God, my teacher be,
showing the things of Christ to me. [Refrain]

Special Music #539 Old Ship of Zion, all three verses

Closing # 601, vs.1+2  I Am Thine, O Lord
1 I am thine, O Lord, I have heard thy voice,
and it told thy love to me;
but I long to rise in the arms of faith
and be closer drawn to thee.

Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
to the cross where thou hast died;
draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
to thy precious, bleeding side.

2 Consecrate me now to thy service, Lord,
by the pow'r of grace divine;
let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
and my will be lost in thine. [Refrain]

Postlude               Moderato  by P.Piel
Please find the prayer list below, and sincerely pray for ALL of God's creation.
Prayer has divine power to demolish strongholds.

4 "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.
On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up
against the knowledge of God,
and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."
2 Corinthians 10: 4-5

Crisis Control Ministry
Good morning, my friends!

Well, how many of us has said, “I can’t wait until 2021 when everything will be better”. I am writing this the last week of 2020 and the one thing that I think will be better is the Corono-19 Virus immunizations and for that I am thankful.  I will stand in line like everyone else (or I hope everyone else) and get my injection. Several caring groups and churches stepped up and fed many people during the Christmas Season. What happens in January, February, March and the rest of the year is that people still need food.  This will hold true across our city, across our state and across our country. This Church has been practicing “Christianity in Action” for many years by participating in the Food of the Month program at Crisis Control Ministry. Case in point, this afternoon when Ron and I picked up those SALTINE CRACKERS you brought in December, the trunk of my car was overflowing.  For the month of January, the Ministry is requesting BEEF STEW. This food is warm and filling during the cold weather that is upon us. How about purchasing a couple of cans, place them in the white box in the Administrative Hallway, and let this be a New Year’s resolution that we all can keep. Have a safe, healthy and certainly a blessed New Year.
