Last call for Awards and Scholarship Applications | |
As the calendar winds down for the year, think of all your awesome volunteers who are deserving of recognition and who would serve as great role models for others with FCCPTA or Virginia PTA recognition.
Categories for awards include Volunteer, Principal, Local Unit (PTA/PTSA), Staff Member, and Educator (for PTAs/PTSAs that are currently in “Good Standing” with FCCPTA/VAPTA). FCCPTA will submit the top Nominees for Volunteer, Principal, and Local Unit to VAPTA for consideration for a State-level award.

The FCCPTA Scholarships are open to High School Seniors who were members (by Dec 1) of PTSAs that are currently in “Good Standing”.
Scholarship are $500 for students continuing their education through an Academic, Technical, Fine Arts, or Special Education program.

FCCPTA 2024-2026 Officer Slate | |
The FCCPTA Nominating Committee met and reviewed all nominations for the
PTA Executive Committee. In accordance with Fairfax County Council PTA
bylaws, all candidates must be members of the PTA and in good standing. The
proposed officer nominees met all criteria for election to office.
After careful consideration, the following slate of officers were approved and are presented as follows in accordance with the bylaws:
President – Debbie Kilpatrick
Vice President of Outreach – Erin Anderson
Vice President of Programs – Charles Havasy
Secretary – Denise Bolton
Treasurer - Darrell Allen II
Vice President of Communications - Donya Wright
Vice President of Training - Hamid Munir
Vice President of Advocacy – Tony Shivers

This slate is hereby presented and nominations may be taken from the floor. For
a member to run “from the floor”, they must submit a self nomination no later than 26 April, 2024, using the form found at the button below .
A vote will be taken at the May 7, 2024 General Membership Meeting and the newly elected officers will then be installed.

On Sunday, March 17th, the 2024 Fairfax County Spelling Bee was held at Lake Braddock Secondary School, with more than 80 spellers and lasting for 4 hours! In the end we crowned three winners:
2024 Fairfax County Spelling Bee Champion
#68 - ANKITA BALAJI, Rachel Carson Middle School
winning word: zanni, meaning "a madcap clown in masked comedy traditionally from Bergamo, Italy, usually playing the part of a comic servant and indulging in acrobatic antics and tricks"
1st Runner-Up
#66 - NARGIZA MUZHAPAER, Pinnacle Academy
2nd Runner-Up
#51 - CARTER KING, Capital Baptist Homeschool Co-op
Ankita Balaji and Nargiza Muzhapaer also won the privilege to represent Fairfax County Council PTA, Fairfax County and Alexandria City as our Regional Champions at the 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee, May 26-31 at the Gaylord Resort in National Harbor, MD. Carter King is the Alternate should one of our Regional Champions be unable to serve.
In addition to our 3 winners, we should recognize the achievements of the 13 other school bee champion spellers who were also FINALISTS!

April is Month of the Military Child, to help you celebrate and support military families in your community, we have a new resource for you!
FCCPTA has compiled numerous free resources, tips for supporting students beyond April, starting Ambassador groups, and much more. All the information is contained in the new presentation accessible via the buttons below.
The presentation is also shared on the FCCPTA Facebook page and can be shared with your PTA community.
