Thank you to Everyone Who Came to the Walk for Survivor Safety and Community Cultural Fair!

On October 14, 2023, FCR held our annual Walk for Survivor Safety and Community Cultural Fair! Thank you to all the sponsors, volunteers, donors, vendors, and participants who make it one of the most successful walks yet! Together, we raised over $25,000 for survivor services!

We want to give a special shout out to one of our vendors - 5 Elements Bracelets. Run by two wonderful young women, they generously donated $1 of every sale they made to FCR! Great job girls!

Program Point Out

Paid Internship Program

The public services field has long been understaffed, with demand for services outpacing the ability of organizations like FCR to hire quality care providers. Unfortunately, this problem was only exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and rising inflation. The demand for care created high rates of staff burnout and students were reluctant to apply for unpaid internships because they could not afford to forfeit income from other jobs in exchange for experience.

By creating a paid internship program, FCR is hoping to overcome these challenges and create a pipeline from colleges to the public services sector. FCR works with several area colleges and universities, such as Stonehill College, Bridgewater State University, and UMass Boston to recruit diverse interns to work in all our departments. FCR is also looking to expand the internship program by hiring law students to help our clients understand their rights and stand by them as they navigate the trappings of the court system. By showing students the wide array of opportunities available to them in the field, regardless of their major or academic background, we hope they will join us after graduation to continue all their incredible work.

FCR currently has several interns working in departments including FBS Visitation, Domestic Violence Advocacy, and Mental Health Services. Here are a few testimonials about how their time with FCR has impacted them and the organization:

“I have really enjoyed my internship experience at FCR in Visitation, and I look forward to continuing it next semester. I feel like I have been able to grow and learn about the field of social services over the course of my time here!” – Sydney Farrell, FBS Visitation Program Intern

"I love working with FCR as it gives me the opportunity to explore my field of study with true client interaction and observe the day-to-day functionality of a domestic violence agency. I have learned a tremendous amount about my own interests as everyone here is always open and willing to help answer any questions I have" - Adam Ammirata, Mental Health Services Intern

“My experience with FCR has been nothing but absolutely amazing! Through my supervisor and other colleagues, I have been able to further my education on Domestic Violence and provide advocacy to clients confidently. I am so inspired by FCR and their mission, I am proud to announce I have been accepted into Bridgewater State University's Masters of Social Work advanced standing program. I look forward to furthering my knowledge of the human services field, and am forever grateful to have become part of FCR's community” – Shannon McGinley, Domestic Violence Advocate Intern

“The internship program has been a huge asset to the Domestic Violence Survivors program. Interns have helped create virtual support groups, outreach material for education and awareness, and help with the day-to-day function of the program. They are eager to learn and grow in their profession.” – Heather Sullivan, Director of Domestic Violence Services and the Healthy Relationships Program

January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month

Every year, over 27.5 million individuals - men, women, and children - are trafficked around the world. Recognized since 2010, the awareness month helps open eyes to the prevalence of trafficking in our communities and empowers us all to advocate for survivors.

Welcome Our New Staff Members!

Since September, five new full-time staff members joined FCR! Help us welcome them!

Nichole "Nikki" Dawson

Mental Health Clinician

I have been working with children and families since 1990 and I have had the pleasure of earning my Bachelors in Criminal Justice and my Masters in Clinical Mental Health. I have worked with children and adults in many different capacities. I pride myself on being culturally aware and open to new and exciting adventures professionally. I am an enigma in this crazy thing called life but I have many crafts and amazing aspects to who I am and I look forward to growing with this team of amazing professionals I have just joined! I love to read and, I am always working on my knowledge base. I was a competitive ice skater in adulthood and I love to dance.

Maria Giammarco

 FBS Visitation Program Coordinator

I have several years' experience working in the social work field serving many children and families. I previously worked at the Arlington DCF office for four years as an Ongoing Social Worker, with Mass Mentor working with families with children in the foster care program, and most recently I was working as a Family Care Coordinator for the Old Colony YMCA emergency shelter program. I recently went skydiving for the first time, and in my down time I love drawing, lettering, and all things crafts!

Farah Louis

Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Case Manager

Prior to coming here, I’ve been navigating the world of substance abuse as a case manager as well as an aftercare coordinator. My heart is in my community of Brockton and that’s why I decided to join FCR- to make a REAL impact in other’s lives. When I am not in work mode, catch me with a paintbrush in hand, or hitting my gains at the gym. I’m ready to bring my passion and experience to this new adventure! Thank you everyone for the warm welcome I have received upon my arrival. I definitely feel right at home.

Ana Paula De Sa

Transitional Housing Program Case Manager

My goal in life since I was a little girl has been to help people. With that being said, I have a background in healthcare. I am a medical interpreter, EMT, PCA, and was a case manager a few years ago. I left due to health issues but am glad to be back. Having that eagerness to help attracted me to FCR as I have seen the impacts of DV. I am a city girl but love to ride horses. My hobby is to drive interstates to get to know new places randomly.

Tara McElroy

Part-time Transitional Housing Program Case Manager

I was previously a Domestic Violence advocate with SafePLAN located at Brockton District Court. I came to FCR because I love to help people and make a difference.

A fun fact about me is that I know how to play chess!
