Doris Dickerson - Lambert HS
Doris Dickerson was a Forsyth County educator for 20 years, recently retiring from Lambert HS in the Healthcare Science CTAE pathway. She taught Diagnostic Phlebotomy and Clinical Lab Internship where the students become National Phlebotomy Technicians. Additionally, the students work alongside medical practitioners for the academic school year earning clinical hours that they can carry with them into post-secondary education. Prior to education, Ms. Dickerson was in both rehabilitation medicine as a therapist and pharmaceutical sales. Ms. Dickerson also served as the HOSA advisor and developed and mentored students to become the world's largest HOSA chapter. Over her career, she was selected as Teacher of the Year, HOSA Advisor of the Year, and Forsyth County NSTA Lead. In retirement, she hopes to continue her enthusiasm for travel, photography, and hiking.
"Doris Dickerson is the epitome of the caring, dedicated, and knowledgeable teacher that we all remember as the best teacher we've each ever had. I am proud to have been able to work with her. She, simply, is the best of the best!"

John White - West Forsyth HS
John White is retiring this year after a career of thirty years in education. He began his career as a Language Arts teacher in both the high school and middle school settings; however, through a series of fortunate events, he found a second life in CTAE as an A/V instructor which, ironically, was his major in college and first several years of employment. Over the past 20 years, he started two broadcasting programs from the ground up with his last twelve years spent at West Forsyth HS. His broadcasting students have won numerous awards from local film festivals to the prestigious Student Production Awards which are awarded by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. As a faculty advisor for SkillsUSA, his students have won several state championships.
"John has been a tremendous asset to the West family. He has been here since the school opened in 2007 and developed the broadcasting department from the ground up. In 2019, his students won first, second, and third place in SkillsUSA Georgia Region 2. We will miss him greatly!"

Culinary Arts Partnership with Christophe's To Go
Students from several high schools recently participated in a fabulous Shark Tank-style opportunity from Christophe's To Go. The idea of the challenge was presented to students from each of the culinary programs in Forsyth County which challenged them to make something different. They had to complete a video, cost their product, and tell how and to whom they would market it. The students met with Chef Christophe Le Matayer and Entrepreneur Cyclone Covey, a local food delivery service. The purpose of the project was to help students develop a product. There were two competitors from South Forsyth HS and one from Denmark HS. Students had a final presentation as well as taste tests for the judges and audience. The winner was Charlette Bythewood, a Senior at South Forsyth HS, for her idea of a "Power Shot." It was a two-bite energy ball designed to help athletes fuel up before a game or recovery after practice. Second place was won by Oliva Zietlin with her healthy quinoa cup. All three contestants have been given the opportunity to further their product ideas with the company. Their products will also appear on Christophe's menu. What an amazing opportunity for students in high school!

Family and Consumer Science Otwell MS
Otwell MS students reach to other countries for real life experiences in the classroom. Students selected a country to research based on their interest and study of the countries in sixth grade social studies. The student lead groups worked cooperatively to research food culture and traditions, prepare a display and authentic cultural recipes representing their country. Students selected a country, identified its location using longitude and latitude, determined the distance for the capital of the US to the capital of their country, charted the population, researched food staples and the food economy. Students learned how a country's location, climate and natural resources affect their food supply. The students' favorite part was sharing their country's delicious traditions and tasting other country's specialties.
