“For many years I always baked to thank my husband’s and mother’s care teams. Now, I’m the patient and it is time for me to say thank you.” - Mary

From Mary with Love and Gratitude
“I finally feel like I am getting my life back and no small part of that is the help I have received from the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation. I never had to ask for help before. My life went from working two jobs and being a caregiver for both my husband and mother to not being able to work and needing care for myself.

I was angry at cancer and angry at needing to ask for help, but everyone I have met through the Foundation has been so thoughtful and generous. They gave me some breathing room. While I am still floundering with my health and finances, they have provided not only a life preserver, but also kindness.”

Clinic Volunteer Shifts to Virtual to Continue to Give Back
“Volunteering is a way for me to give back in remembrance of my mother, who was a long-term patient at FCS in Clermont. She loved going there! After she passed, I wanted to interact with others who were at the clinic and hopefully share some compassion, assistance and comfort, and a smile when needed. I am looking forward to going back and even with a mask, I’ll be smiling. In the meantime, anything I can do, like volunteering remotely by answering phones, is good – a step towards normal. Giving back through volunteering enriches my life, to quote Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give."
