Winter Quarterly News Update

Dear FCS Educators and Colleagues,

As we enter a new academic semester, it's a fitting moment to revisit the valuable insights shared in our August 2023 newsletter. We emphasized the importance of embracing change and innovation in our teaching practices, and aligning with the core aspects of our division's strategic plan. Remember, our classrooms are spaces where life skills and practical knowledge are imparted, shaping the trajectories of our students far beyond the confines of walls.

Professional development remains at the heart of our growth as educators. The pursuit of excellence through evolving methodologies and staying abreast of industry trends is crucial. The CTE Learn platform continues to offer a wealth of webinars, both free and paid content is available. ACTE’s new Online Entrepreneurship Institute promises to provide authentic learning practices for all middle and high school teachers, and don’t forget about the wide variety of professional development conferences and resources that can enrich our teaching methods and expand our horizons.

ACTE’s CareerTech VISION 2023 conference in Phoenix topped the charts providing over 6000 attendees an unparalleled opportunity for professional growth. This event delivered an environment teeming with innovation, collaboration, and insights that can elevate our teaching practices to new heights. Mark your calendars for Dec. 4-7 and seize the chance to network, learn, and grow at the CareerTech VISION 2024 conference in San Antonio, Texas.

Continuing to pursue a fruitful academic year provides us with the opportunity to uphold certain principles that are instrumental in our success: clear goal-setting, adaptability, fostering relationships, maintaining a balanced workload, and celebrating achievements within our classrooms. These practices not only enhance our teaching but also nurture an environment conducive to student growth and engagement.

Our unity as educators in the Family and Consumer Sciences Division is a beacon of hope and progress for the future. As we step forward together, let's keep our shared commitment at the forefront: the profound impact our dedication as educators has on shaping the future of countless lives.

Here's to an inspiring and fulfilling journey ahead!

Stay Tuned: #FCSIgnite Ambassador Program

The FCS Division has begun work to create a FCS Ambassador Program, #InspireFCSEd, which aims to equip students and educators with the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources to advocate for, elevate the importance of, and recruit students to become Family and Consumer Sciences educators. The program will engage junior or senior college-level students that are currently seeking a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education as ambassadors. The ambassadors will connect to high school students across the United States in FCS programs providing a wealth of information to them about becoming a FCS teacher at the secondary level. Stay tuned for more information about the program and the application process.
