The education program will include former FBI kidnapping negotiator, Chris Voss, who will share counter-intuitive communication skills for success, sessions on how to get higher fees for your services and how to improve your proposal writing process, updates on AIA contracts, trends in senior living foodservice programs, an overview of apps and technology tips to increase productivity, a crash course in how to navigate the NAFEM Show exhibit floor, and a look into the future of foodservice with Demography and Generational Marketing futurist, Ken Gronbach.

Abastur Show - Mexico City, Mexico

What do you get when you combine men dressed in giant inflatable pizza costumes, all-you-can-drink ICEE® slushies in exotic flavors, a few of FCSI's most knowledgeable consultants, and one of the world's fastest growing foodservice markets? You get  Abastur2016 The event, held August 30 - September 2 in Mexico City, was a chance for FCSI The Americas and member consultants to continue growing the association's brand in one of the world's most important food service markets. Mexico alone is larger than Spain and France combined, with nearly four times the population of Canada-and on a  very different growth curve .

Mexico is also the second fastest growing economy in Latin America, trailing only Brazil. And that's just one nation-at a conference billed as one of the largest gatherings of hospitality professionals in all of Latin America.
That type of opportunity and growth will always attract a crowd, and FCSI The Americas was well represented at the show. Current FCSI Worldwide chairman William Taunton, FCSI, executive director Wade Koehler, CAE, and new director of Latin American Relations Javier Sorondo attended, greeting current and future members and partners in a redesigned trade show booth.
The educational program also featured some of FCSI The Americas most prominent thought leaders. Juan Martinez, FCSI spoke about the intersection of technology and knowledge in the foodservice industry. Chris Tripoli, FCSI emphasized the importance of designing menus that appeal to millennials, and Ken Schwartz, FCSI gave a detailed tour of the process of kitchen design-and why hiring an FCSI consultant is a good idea.
"The economic and population growth in Latin America makes this one of the most exciting regions in the world for this industry," says Sorondo. "It's exciting to see the association invest in this region, and based on the conversations we had throughout the show, aspiring and current consultants see the value in belonging to the association-and the industry itself understands the important role truly independent consults play."
The foodservice industry sees some of its best opportunity for growth in Latin America, and the vibrancy of Abastur 2016 shows exactly why every independent consultant should keep their eye on the region in the coming years.
Equipotel Show - Sao Paulo, Brazil
FCSI The Americas partnership with SINDAL continues to be a success in 2016!   FCSI TA Executive Committee members James Camacho, FCSI, Bill Caruso, FCSI, Eric Norman, FCSI and William Taunton, FCSI joined Executive Director Wade Koehler, CAE, on a recent trip to Sao Paolo Brazil for the FCSI Brazil Chapter meeting and the Equipotel Show.

In addition, several members attended the event, including Sérgio Frota (Chapter Co-Chair), Marco Amatti, FCSI (FCSI TA Latin America Board Trustee), Raoni Saade, Emmanuel Melo, Diris Petribú, Armando Pucci, FCSI, José Aurélio, Nádia Valadares, Caio Gouveia, and Ivim Peloso.

That contingent of members represented an impressive gathering of some of the most innovative foodservice thought leaders in Brazil-and in all of Latin America.

The result was 2 great meetings during the visit, including Latin America Chapter Co-Chair Sergio Frota welcoming everyone to HUB*FS Thinktank offices for the Latin America Chapter meeting in Brazil.
During the meeting, members discussed what support they need from the FCSI Board, and how to strengthen the partnership with SINDAL to take advantage of Brazil and Latin America's opportunity for tremendous growth.

The next day, members of the FCSI Board discussed what FCSI means to them in front of a packed room at the Equipotel Show, which was followed by special birthday celebration for Joao Perez from SINDAL.
The visit was a success, and is another reason to be excited about the foodservice industry-and the association's-future in Brazil!
With over 350 companies and organizations exhibiting at the Espacio Show in Chile , it was important for FCSI to showcase our members at the event, and continue to build on the Society's momentum in Latin America.
FCSI Worldwide President and FCSI The Americas Past President William Taunton, FCSI was joined by consultant Gabriel Stein, FCSI, Director of Latin American Relations Javier Sorondo, and FCSI Director of Education Kimberly Kissel at the FCSI booth.
"Latin American culture places a heavy emphasis on tradition, and historically consultants haven't played a strong role in the foodservice industry," said Sorondo. "However, that is clearly starting to change. After over a decade of independent consultants working in Chile, business owners are starting to learn about the benefits and savings associated with using an independent consultant."
While it's clear that Latin America is becoming more familiar with the benefits of working with foodservice consultants, it is equally clear that both the industry and FCSI must continue to strengthen their efforts in the region.
Did you miss the webinar on avoiding common mistakes in rack conveyor dishmachine design, presented earlier this month by FCSI and fishnick? Not to worry, as it is available online anytime! Listen in on an engaging conversation between designer and researcher as they discuss what can go sideways in real-world dishmachine operations and how to avoid the most common mistakes.

Amin Delagah, the lead dishmachine researcher at the PG&E Food Service Technology Center, shares some of the surprising results he has uncovered throughout his field research. Connie Dickson, FCSI, poses a hypothetical dishroom project, and together Amin and Connie talk through the details and arrive at an efficient, cost effective, customer-pleasing design.  Register Now
