The Meaning of FCSI
Kristin Sedej, FCSI
Sitting in the Nashville airport, I am thinking back on the NAFEM show and the 2019 FCSI TA Symposium which was held the first week in February in Orlando. For those who had the chance to attend, I hope you had as great of a time as I did. For those of you who did not, I hope you will consider attending our conference in Austin, TX- April 30 - May 2, 2020.
The FCSI The Americas Symposium 2019 broke previous records for attendance, with nearly 170 consultants and nearly 150 Allied members. Taking place Tuesday night and all-day Wednesday before the NAFEM show, the theme of the symposium this year was Accelerate. We kicked off the event on Tuesday night at Andretti’s and we had the place to ourselves. The food, fun and networking were amazing. The energy was so positive. It is always so great to see the many friends and colleagues I have gotten to know over the years through FCSI. (And super fun leaning into my competitive side and blowing past some of them on the racetrack. You know who you are…😊). Wednesday was filled with a full day of education, excellent speakers and break-out sessions, a few more laughs and additional networking. Just in time to hit the NAFEM show floor on Thursday morning!
Getting back to the office last week, I hit the ground running. I realized that I had a renewed sense of energy and desire to “get it right” and “do better”. Later in the week, I had a couple HR questions, so reached out to two different FCSI members (and friends now) on how they do things. Their input helped us reach some decisions. We also received a call from another member asking our advice on how to handle a situation they had.
What does all of this mean? People have asked through the years, “What is the value of FCSI?". It occurred to me that everything I have described above is all part of the value. But, at the end of the day, it’s the people. It’s the FCSI staff that works tirelessly to provide an experience that draws attendance and participation. It is the volunteers that donate their time to plan, educate, share and inspire. It’s our Allied members whose participation and financial support allow the events to occur and grow relationships. And it’s the members who attend the events and share that shore us up. I come back after our events better than before I went. I want to “be better” and “do better”. And when we are motivated internally, we will serve our clients, family and friends better. I could not think of a greater value. Thank you FCSI and all of you who I have met because of it. I am better because of FCSI.
