Accelerating Ahead
Brent Hall, FCSI

Greetings FCSI-TA Members,
By now we’ve all begun to gear up for the new year after putting the holiday season behind us. As we jump start the new year the first big thing on our schedule is NAFEM. It’s a pretty tough one to steer around and our biggest show of all. Along with that comes our FCSI Symposium, our one day “crash course” of networking and learning. Think of it like our Denver Conference last April, only “supercharged”! No matter how long we’ve been doing this, there’s always something we can tune up and make run better and the Symposium is our moment to do just that.
With the industry racing to embrace a multitude of changes on every track, we’ve been hard at work designing a learning curriculum that encompasses every strategy, whether you are Design or MAS. For those interested in energy efficiency, we’re going “Under the Hood” with presenter David Zabrowski to take a look at the role of ventilation hoods. For those interested in 3D design tools, presenters Chris Huebner, Tim McDougald, and Jennifer Murphy, FCSI, are going to “Rev Your Engines” as they bring you insight on how to win the Revit race. As we continue to run the Human race, presenter Meghan Grace is going to help us “Close the Gap” on Generation Z with an in-depth look at what exactly Gen-Z is looking for in a dining experience and how we can influence our designs to close that gap.
Between networking breaks and breakout sessions, we’ve got you covered lap after lap of this race. When the checkered flag falls, you’ll be revved up and ready to run NAFEM like a fine-tuned machine.
In closing, there’s one more thought I’d like to jump start this new year with and trust the rest of my FCSI colleagues will add to their list as well, and that is to be good humans! We must remember that to be a great society, we need to be compassionate and caring to all and not just the ones who share our same ethnicity, gender, political affiliation or religious beliefs. Try and take a moment each day to reach out and have a face to face conversation with a friend, colleague, or even better yet, a total stranger. It just takes minutes, but could mean so much. Be sure to focus and connect during this conversation on a personal level and truly listen with your full attention, compassion and heart. I promise, you will be surprised what you learn, not only about them but yourself!
I wish you all the very best in 2019 and look forward to seeing everyone at the FCSI TA Symposium and the NAFEM Show in Orlando in February!
