The Value of Interactions
James Camacho, FCSI
|
I was reminded again this past week of how much our industry is truly a relationship-based business. We get so busy in our day-to-day activities and constant emails that many times we forget the interpersonal relationships at our finger tips. In our office, the communication between our clients and staff seemed to be mainly through emails. We are taking a step away from our desks and going to meet our clients face-to-face. This allows us the luxury of building a genuine relationship with the people we serve. It also allows us the opportunity to meet their staff members, that we normally only know through email communications.
A couple weeks ago, just by setting up a face-to-face encounter, another Project Manager within a firm we were visiting, saw us and it sparked a memory and opportunity for another project. This is just one example of the many meetings we have been encouraging our staff to set up. I can’t say enough how important an interpersonal encounter is - for business and for personal endeavors.
Being a long-time member of FCSI, I have found that the greatest value of being a member is the community of other consultants. In my father’s FCSI, every company had their secrets of design, operation, and processes. Today, with the platforms of social media and the internet, there are very few secrets…or you have to work harder to hide them.
The FCSI mission statement states, “We Share, We Support, We Inspire.” I have personally reached out to many other consultant members and they have openly shared their project knowledge with me, they make it known that I have their support, and in some cases, they inspire us to aim for greater levels of excellence.
I am proud to be a member of this Society and it is a privilege to build, serve, and learn with each and every one of you. I look forward to seeing you at NAFEM 2019! Let’s catch up!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

An Important Step for FCSI in
Latin America
Emmanuel Melo, FCSI
On the 23rd of this month, I was with a group of FCSI Brazilian designers and consultants in the city of Pouso Alegre, Brazil, to participate in the workshop: Basic Bakery Training. The event was organized by Prática Produtos SA and is of immense importance for FCSI in Latin America.
Prática SA is the first equipment manufacturer in the region to participate in the FCSI Continuing Professional Growth Program (CPG). This first training provided 3.5 Continuing Educational Units (CEUs). As we know, since 2010 the consulting members must obtain the specified number of CEUs each year to maintain their status in the Society.
It is now easier for Brazilian members to maintain and improve their knowledge and skills by participating in certified training conducted in our own country. This event also represents a great incentive for other manufacturers and foodservice consultants in the region to join FCSI. Thank you Prática SA. We greatly appreciate the support.

FCSI Southeast Chapter Event
The FCSI TA Southeast Chapter event kicked off on November 1st with a cocktail social in typical FCSI fashion at SSA Tampa’s newly constructed studio featuring a custom bar that became the main focus of the night. The plethora of local spirits, beer and wine along with catering by the famous Columbia Restaurant, radiated the networking environment throughout the studio. Many industry relationships were strengthened while new relationships were created throughout the night as we collaborated on not only business topics, but also various cocktail creations. Many manufacturers were present to support our chapter creating great opportunity for networking and future educational opportunities for the consultant attendees.

KCL is pleased to announce Tech Tip Tuesdays, a series of free webinars just for you. The lunchtime sessions start at 1:00 pm Central. Each one will provide a tasty morsel of information on a focused topic in 20-30 minutes. The sessions, delivered in meal time, er, real time, will include a question and answer period.
Topics will include an introduction to KCL for new users, as well as introduce new features, like KCL NapkinSketch, and help subscribers make the most of existing features, like custom blocks. See the current schedule below for details and registration information. Later this fall, the webinars will explore KCL efficiency tools like layer mapping and the Revit toolbar.
Tech Tip Tuesdays will build on the momentum of recent KCL On The Road live training sessions hosted by Pecinka-Ferri, Rational, and Welbilt. The online sessions will be recorded and made available on our
YouTube Channel
.
*CEUs are not available for these webinars.
