FDDC’s Legislative Briefing: An Introduction

The Florida Developmental Disabilities Council, Inc. (FDDC) is pleased to introduce a new way to share relevant legislative information with the public. For the 2026 Legislative Session, the Council will release our weekly legislative briefing designed to inform all Floridians living with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), their families, and other interested stakeholders about issues that may impact the I/DD community the most and what the Council’s position is on those issues.

These weekly briefings will serve as the key information hub on important issues the Council is monitoring during the legislative session and will provide ways that you can track topics that align with your own interests.

The legislative session will begin Tuesday, January 13, 2026. The Council will be meeting in person on Thursday, January 22, 2026, to finalize our initial priorities regarding legislation being submitted by both the House and the Senate. Our weekly FDDC Legislative Briefing will begin on Friday, January 30, 2026, and will outline the Council’s positions, priorities, and ways you can stay engaged throughout the session.

Our Voices Matter: Preserve Our Choice, is the Council’s main legislative priority and positive messaging campaign in 2026. It is an opportunity for members of the I/DD community receiving Medicaid to talk about their positive experiences through programs that offer those services (the Agency for Persons with Disabilities state funded programs, iBudget waiver program, Consumer Directed Care-CDC+ waiver program and/or the managed care pilot program for individuals with developmental disabilities provided by Florida Community Care) that are positively meeting their needs and why maintaining choice matters to the I/DD community in the years to come.

We encourage you to visit our website to review the Council’s legislative platform, access talking points, and learn how to easily submit your story to legislators.

To stay informed, please sign up for our weekly Legislative Briefings at www.fddc.org and join our community as we work together to ensure that our voices are heard.
