To spread extra love this month, we partnered with the First Presbyterian Church of Southampton to host our annual Valentine's Open House where our customers could pick out free coats, clothing, shoes, personal care items, and household products.

In February, we distributed 61,576 meals and assisted 22 local families with essential home utilities, gaps in rent, or medical expense. We continue to see an unprecedented need for food and financial assistance. Your unwavering support ensures our community members are seen and have the care they need to get through.

FOOD PANTRY

In the month of February, we had 1932 visits to our food pantry, making it the busiest month we have ever had! This month, we had 553 more visits than we had last February. We have provided 118,709 meals worth of food to our community already this year. That's 27,187 more than we had done at this time last year. While many other pantries across Long Island are reporting clients too afraid to come receive services, we are humbled that more clients continue to trust us to help them.

Families can receive at least $900 a month worth of groceries from our pantry. We distribute real, delicious, and nutritious food. Together, every Wednesday and Friday, we distribute to each family a bag of non-perishables, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, and frozen meat. This month, we gave 4th bag of extra kid-friendly groceries while children were home on Winter BreakWe made sure that 546 students who rely on school meals had enough ready-to-eat food at home.

Thank you to our special food pantry helpers this month:

  • The First Presbyterian Church of Southampton for hosting a “soup”er bowl and collecting soup and cereal
  • HAPCO Farms for delivering farm fresh produce each week
  • Southampton Town Kiwanis and Chef Delaney Oser for making delicious soup
  • The Children’s School for running a cereal drive
  • Grace Presbyterian Church Youth Group led by Lesley Middlekauff for baking amazing lasagnas
  • Golden Pear for donating loaves of bread
  • South Fork Bakery for sharing yummy baked goods
  • Citarella for donating baked goods and sandwiches twice a week
  • Southampton UFSD for giving leftover sandwiches
  • Long Island Cares and Island Harvest for their tremendous help

We are receiving nearly 50,000 lbs. worth of food a month and in between deliveries our shelves are empty. We need more food than ever before, which is why we continue to need YOUR support.

Your gifts allow our customers to put healthy food on the table week after week. Thank you for loving our neighbors!

ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

This month, we hosted our annual Valentine's Day Open House. We welcomed 311 of our customers to shop for free clothing, coats, shoes, and personal care items for themselves and their families.

A BIG thank you to everyone who donated clothing and the organizations that support our efforts to provide for our neighbors in need:

  • Bombas Socks for donating 5,000 pairs of socks
  • East Hampton LVIS for sharing a van full of clothing donations
  • Riverhead Subaru - Subaru Loves to Help & Operation Warm for giving 204 pairs of new children's sneakers with socks

  • Supplies for Success for providing us with Care Kits packed with art supplies for all of our children to have something fun to do over Winter Break
  • Allied Foundation for donating diapers and personal care items

Thank you to our dedicated volunteers Catherine Stoll, Kim Warco, Santa Tush, Patti Robinson, Kendra Wates, Barbara Organisciak, Anne Ramunno, and Aimee Larkin for organizing the clothing and welcoming our customers.

We are doing all we can to support children, adults, and seniors in need. Providing resources and wrap-around services for our clients is so important. Already this year, we have given $29,495 in safety net assistance. Our families are struggling to make ends meet while our seasonal economy is at its lowest.

We are able to be a crucial safety net and a helping hand thanks to donors like you. Thank you for loving our neighbors!

ADVOCACY

We are so grateful to ABC7 News reporter Stacey Sager and Univision Television reporter Nayeli Chavez-Geller for highlighting local immigrants vulnerable to exploitation and abuse by their employers.

Our community depends on immigrants to create the vibrant economy, schools and institutions that make this a great place to live. Unfortunately, too often we see our clients exploited and mistreated by employers, landlords, and lawyers looking to profit off their fear. We do our best to advocate for our clients to help them feel safe and we are most grateful to be in a community with excellent and trusted local law enforcement.

In addition to helping clients report crimes against them, we are also providing them with Red Cards and other resources to help them feel safe.
