Christ in the Storm
~ Pope Francis ~
Embracing his Cross means finding the courage to embrace all the hardships of the present time, abandoning for a moment our eagerness for power and possessions in order to make room for the creativity that only the Spirit is capable of inspiring."

A short reflection from our Director
Dear Friends of the Shrine,
As we embark on February 2021, we wish each of you peace, health, safety, and happiness. As time moves on, let’s move on with positive thoughts, prayers, and trust in God who will journey with us every moment of our life. God loves to hear from us even when God knows our heart's deepest desires.
What is your desire? What will you ask God for at this time? What will you tell God about yourself, your family, your friends? Will you wish the world peace and prosperity? Let’s pray that peace will prevail. Please be assured that our prayers are with you and asking you to pray for us as well.
February 17 we will begin our Lenten time. A time for reflection on Jesus’ passion, suffering, and resurrection. A great time to prepare our hearts to rejoice at the Resurrection.
Psalm 25:4-5 Encompasses the following beautiful prayer!
Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior, and
my hope is in you all day long.
God Bless You.

"DREAMING OF A SINGLE HUMAN FAMILY"
WEBINAR SERIES ON IMMIGRATION
|
|
The National Shrine of St. Frances X. Cabrini -
in collaboration with the Cabrini Retreat Center and Cabrini University - hosted a wonderful webinar on Wednesday, January 27th.
|
|
Mother Cabrini's devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, her spirit of openness and flexibility to God’s call, and her missionary vocation are reflective of God’s love in action.
Change is a matter of the heart. With an openness of heart and a deep listening, we can approach others as true brothers and sisters. We can build and dream together.
‘How important it is to dream together… By ourselves, we risk seeing mirages, things that are not there. Dreams, on the other hand, are built together.’ Let us dream, then, as a single human family, as fellow travelers sharing the same flesh, as children of the same earth which is our common home, each of us bringing the richness of his or her beliefs and convictions, each of us with his or her own voice, brothers and sisters all.” (#8, Fratelli Tutti, Pope Francis)

A Message From Our Rector

A Message from our Rector
Ash Wednesday (February 17) begins with “Remember that you are dust and unto dust you shall return.” We know this for sure – we will die.
Isaiah proclaimed a messenger will come to proclaim good news to the brokenhearted, to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, and a garment of praise instead of despair. Those who once repented in dust and ashes will be called oaks of right-relationships, a planting of the Lord for the display of his spender. (Is 61.3)
We could not become like God, so God became like us. God showed us how to heal instead of kill, how to mend instead of destroy, how to love instead of hate, how to live instead of long for more. When nailed to a tree, God forgave. And when we buried God, God got up...
We are not spared death; however, the power of death has been defeated. We are invited to the victory, to follow God back to life. We have become like buried seeds about to transform.
Another form used in the distribution of ashes is: “Repent and believe the Good News.” These six words come from the first chapter of St. Mark’s Gospel. The Greek word, Metanoia (repent), means ‘change your mindset’. The power of a great Lent prepares the mind and heart for entering the Great News of Jesus Christ is risen.

|
Part of what makes the Shrine so special is greeting visitors from all walks of life and from all over the world. Whether they come because of their deep devotion to Mother Cabrini, their history with Columbus Hospital or their interest in learning about the compelling First American Citizen Saint that lived, worked and died in Chicago, they all delight in the unique and sacred experience of visiting and touring the Shrine.
Currently we are offering docent led tours with groups of 10 people or less that covers Mother Cabrini's life, history of Columbus Hospital (1 of 67 institutions of care Mother Cabrini founded), as well as the breathtaking architecture of the Chapel and what the Missionary Sisters are currently doing around the world.
We are following mandated guidelines to provide a safe space for those attending mass, private prayer and touring the Shrine. These guidelines will be sent to you upon booking your tour. For more information call: 773-360-5115 or email: admin@cabrininationalshrine.org
