Alternative Agriculture: Hydroponics!

Explore the alternative methods being used to enhance agricultural production. West Virginia State University is exploring the benefits of vertical hydroponic systems and high tunnels to promote year-round crop production. This lesson provides an opportunity to discuss the feasibility of hydroponic agriculture and to introduce terms such as soilless culture, yield, germination, diversification, genetic work, and species. Start a conversation with your students about why alternative methods of production are important and whether hydroponics would work in Idaho.
