From the Pastor
I can’t believe I’m already writing about the season of Lent—but here we are! This year, our Lenten journey begins on Ash Wednesday, February 18th. We’ll be preaching around a theme shaped by lament, repentance, and anticipation. Lent isn’t just about giving something up; it’s about opening ourselves more fully to God’s grace.
On Ash Wednesday, we are marked with ashes in the sign of the cross—a simple but powerful reminder of who we are and whose we are. As we reflect on Jesus’ forty days in the wilderness (Matthew 4), fasting and prayer help us remember our dependence on God and strengthen our faith along the way.
In the weeks that follow, Scripture will lead us deeper. We’ll begin by naming our own sin and brokenness (Psalm 139), and inviting God to search our hearts. From there, we’ll start looking at the brokenness of the world—and even the church itself—listening to the prophet Habakkuk’s cry for justice and healing.
Lament moves us toward repentance: a turning around, a change in direction. Together, we’ll reflect on both personal and communal repentance, trusting that God’s forgiveness is real and restoring.
And it’s important to remember that Lent does not end in sorrow. As we move toward Easter, we’ll look ahead with hope, believing, as Paul writes, that “the one who began a good work in you will bring it to completion” (Philippians 1:6). Throughout this season, we’ll pray for God’s kingdom to come and recommit ourselves to living as a community shaped by the love of Jesus.
May this Lent be a holy journey marked by honesty, healing, and hope.
As always, I look forward to seeing you - especially in worship,
Pastor Robert
