FedEx Hiring Signup Closes Today! (With A New Contract)

Here's some news that caught a lot of people by surprise: FedEx has reopened pilot applications for the first time in years. It's been a tough stretch for the company. Between losing the USPS contract and Amazon shifting more of its freight flying to ACMI carriers, FedEx has faced some significant headwinds that led to a prolonged hiring pause. That's why this announcement is such a positive sign, not just for FedEx, but for the industry as a whole. It also comes just days after FedEx pilots ratified a new contract, giving them even more reason to celebrate.

If you're interested in applying, there are two important deadlines to remember. First, you must join the FedEx Talent Community by the end of the day on June 15. Then, completed applications must be submitted by July 1. This isn't the typical application process, and that's where some pilots could get caught off guard.

The key thing to know is that if you don't sign up for the Talent Community by June 15, you won't be eligible to submit an application during this hiring window. With FedEx hiring again for the first time in years, this is an opportunity many pilots have been waiting a long time to see.

Rumors of Large Fall Pilot Classes

As summer flying ramps up, airlines enter their busiest season of the year. To maximize the number of pilots available to fly the line, most carriers scale back training department staffing and reduce the number of new-hire classes. This summer has followed that trend, with American pausing classes entirely and United reducing hiring classes to just one per month. Despite the slowdown in training, both airlines have continued interviewing pilots, which suggests they're preparing for what could be a much busier hiring environment this fall.

Industry rumors are pointing to all three major legacy carriers ramping up classes to their maximum training capacity later this year. While the economic outlook remains somewhat uncertain particularly with ongoing concerns surrounding the conflict involving Iran, optimism continues to build around long-term airline growth. Both American and United are taking delivery of new aircraft on a regular basis and continue to expand, while Delta has recently faced pilot staffing challenges that have contributed to hundreds of flight cancellations.

Of course, rumors are just rumors until the schedules are published, but if even part of this speculation becomes reality, the second half of the year could bring a significant increase in hiring opportunities across the industry.
