Enhanced Performance Management and Incentive Targeting: The Role of Accounting
Most often than not, the accounting function is relegated to financial recording and reporting, without actively participating in performance management. Yet, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that measure organizational performance such as Earnings Before Interest, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA), reported by the accounting function play a critical role in incentive compensation. The human resource function traditionally handles performance management, the strategy function organizational strategy, and the accounting function (accrual of incentive compensation—part of financial recording and reporting). Whereas these unique functional areas seem unrelated on the surface, they are intertwined when it comes to goal setting, feedback, performance evaluation, and employee rewards (incentive targeting). This program (presentation) focuses on the need to bring these major functional areas together to effectively determine incentive compensation from the macro (corporate) level to the micro (individual) level.
