Wow! January 24 here we come! New goals and opportunities await.

We are anticipating a sold-out crowd at our monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 9* at Northwood Club. As expected, registration has been high since the announcement of Dory Wiley, CEO of Commerce Street Holdings, as our keynote speaker. Registration is open to FEI Dallas members/sponsors and their guests until Wednesday, January 3, and then the waitlist kicks in. Avoid the waitlist and register today if you haven’t already!

Members are already asking about upcoming keynote programs: Adm. Patrick M. Walsh (ret.), Former Commander in Chief, Pacific Fleet, U.S. Navy on February 13; David Walls, CEO, Austin Industries on March 5 (first Tuesday of the month due to Spring Break conflicts); and Brad Brookshire, CEO of Brookshire Grocery Company on April 9. Look for details in our monthly newsletters and weekly UPCOMING EVENTS emails every Monday afternoon year-round. If you miss an issue, you can catch up at the Newsletter Archive at the FEI Dallas website.

*Remember that monthly meetings are on 2nd Tuesdays in 2024 unless otherwise noted.

2024 Annual FEI Dallas Socials

Our two upcoming annual social events continue to deliver on the Go Big or Go Home mantra that defines 2023-24 FEI Dallas events.

Party like it’s 1985 at the Winter Social on February 3 at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, a private event for FEI Dallas members and sponsors themed Weird Science (like the 1985 movie) in a nod to three floors of fascinating natural science exhibits. Mixing & mingling with your FEI friends, dinner, music & dancing, food stations– including chemical cocktails! – and other fun activities are in the works. FEI Dallas members and sponsors can register both yourself and your optional +1 under EVENTS at the FEI Dallas website. Registration is open through Friday, January 26

We asked and FEI Dallas members answered! In a change-up from previous years, the 2024 Golf Outing will be at Topgolf Dallas on May 7 with concurrent tracks for a Top Golf Tournament and Speed Networking Social. FEI Dallas members were surveyed earlier this year about their preferred social activities, and Top Golf edged out a green-grass golf tournament and other activities as the top spot for spring 2024. The Social Events Committee is always open to input and ideas from our members for future events.

New SIG Group: G.R.O.W. CFO Series

FEI Dallas Special Interest Groups have always delivered great subject matter content for members involved in particular industries. In addition to existing SIGs in Manufacturing, Private Equity, Technology, Healthcare, Real Estate, Restaurant & Retail and Oil & Gas, we have a new SIG this year, the G.R.O.W. CFO Series. I encourage FEI Dallas members with interest in Growth, Resources, and Opportunities for Women to register for this first-ever G.R.O.W. event on January 11, Women in M&A: A Panel Discussion, featuring a panel of M&A professionals including an investment bank, a PE firm, and an M&A attorney. See EVENTS at the FEI Dallas website for details and to register.

Invite a Qualified Colleague to a Meeting on Us!

I continue to encourage FEI Dallas members and sponsors to invite your peers who qualify for FEI membership to a monthly meeting or SIG event. Be sure to watch your email as registrations open for numerous events. Program information and details of guest registration can be found in the meeting postings under EVENTS at the FEI Dallas website, no login required.

These amazing programs and events are the result of a lot of collaboration. Sponsors, chapter staff, and committees work hard to make this schedule possible. Thank you all for your effort.

Strategies to address the new SEC cyber disclosure rule (and how to do it!)

The SEC recently released a new cyber disclosure rule requiring public companies to disclose information about their cybersecurity governance practices as well as impacts associated with material cyber incidents. While they include information on what is required to be disclosed, they don’t address how organizations might design their processes and controls to accurately address those disclosure requirements. One approach may be to utilize the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) cybersecurity risk management framework.
