Dear FEI Dallas members, sponsors, and stakeholders: I’m thrilled to serve as the chapter president for the upcoming year. Thank you for this opportunity and your ‘vote of confidence’. I recall the first committee I worked on, back in ~2012, my committee leader’s direction was to “try new things.” Our committees are already working, planning out an exciting year. Our members will see areas where we will be “trying new things.” More to come on that.

Serving on one of our committees is a great way to get involved, build your network, make friends, and maximize the value of your membership in FEI. You can find more about these opportunities on our website, click here. Contact emily.colgan@feidallas.org to get plugged in.

Finally, I learned something new about our Career Management Committee recently. It operates in conjunction with the Financial Executives Networking Group (The FENG), with monthly meetings occurring in Dallas off Northwest Highway and Dallas North Tollway. I had incorrectly assumed this was primarily for colleagues who are in-transition. However, Kelly Harris, Vice Chair of the Career Management Committee, educated me and our board, that Career Management helps us develop our careers… regardless of our current employment status.

We can all learn, grow, and develop from the excellent programming/CPE and networking that the Career Management group offers. The June program with Terry Sullivan, Founder of BuzzPro, who has spoken to FEI in the past about optimizing use of LinkedIn to broaden our networks, provided visibility into new opportunities, and more. We can all benefit from that information and the July session on “LinkedIn Recruiter, Tips and Tricks” by Kurt VandeMotte, Chief Story Teller, Linked Executive Search.

Career Management meetings are open to members of FEI and FENG. Most meetings include programs where FEI members can earn CPE credit with pre-registration under EVENTS at the FEI Dallas website.

For more information on the joint FEI Career Management/FENG meetings, contact Bob Walker, rbobwalker@gmail.com, or Kelly Harris, kelly.harris@harris-dickey.com.

Strategic Insights for Financial Leaders: Adapting to Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Trends

This program is designed to provide a deep dive into the evolving landscape of consumer financial protection. Our panel of experts will explore a variety of pressing issues currently shaping the regulatory environment, notably the implications of Dodd-Frank Section 1071 and the recent decision from the U.S. Supreme Court that could significantly impact financial practices.

The discussion will delve into the latest litigation and regulatory actions targeting late fees and other "junk fees" that affect consumer finances. Panelists will analyze these developments through multiple lenses—legal, regulatory, and business—to provide a holistic view of the challenges and opportunities these trends present. Additionally, the session will cover emerging developments from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), offering attendees strategic insights on how to adapt their practices to align with new regulations and consumer expectations.

This session will equip financial leaders with the knowledge and strategies needed to navigate the complexities of the current financial regulation climate, ensuring they are well-prepared to adjust their operations and policies in response to these critical changes.

Investing in Artificial Intelligence

This program will identify areas where corporate value has been created, why value is emerging, and the areas where value will be created for using companies - the ultimate investors in AI. This will contrast to many recent panels which concentrate on the necessity for rapid AI adoption and on the organizational implementation of AI. The program will concentrate on a better understanding of AI’s evolution and the emerging value chain.

Strategies to address the new SEC cyber disclosure rule (and how to do it!)

The SEC recently released a new cyber disclosure rule requiring public companies to disclose information about their cybersecurity governance practices as well as impacts associated with material cyber incidents. While they include information on what is required to be disclosed, they don’t address how organizations might design their processes and controls to accurately address those disclosure requirements. One approach may be to utilize the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) cybersecurity risk management framework.
