Wow! The year is flying by and it’s only March. FEI Dallas continues to deliver on the Go Big or Go Home mantra. We have had a great lineup of speakers so far and have added a lot of new members. Congratulations to our members and sponsors for aiming high and managing these achievements!

The FEI Dallas Nominating Committee is finalizing the ballot for the 2024-25 slate of officers to be presented to members for voting in March. Electing officers is a critical step in creating an effective leadership team and we encourage all FEI Dallas members in good standing to watch your email for the ballot and cast your vote. FEI Dallas officer elections are conducted online via Survey Monkey.

Our next monthly meeting is March 5 at Northwood Club – a week earlier than our usual 2nd Tuesday meeting date due to area Spring Break schedules. David Walls, CEO of Austin Industries, will discuss his insight into the challenging disciplines of construction safety and effective corporate leadership. Dave DuVarney, Baker Tilly, opens the meeting with a program on “Data as an Asset.”

Save the Date for FEI Dallas’ last big social event of the year, a Topgolf Tournament & Speed Networking Social on May 7 at Topgolf Park Lane. Watch our Monday events emails for more details and registration. A great menu of sponsorship opportunities are available starting at $1500. Contact Sponsorship leaders Warren Rapert or May Lee Harris, or Jackie Dunn, FEI Dallas Manager, for more information.

Coming in May, the FEI Financial Leadership Summit is in Orlando at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, May 19-21. FEI members and non-members alike should consider attending, the destination and programs are superior. Discounted Disney tickets are available to Summit registrants who want to add a trip to one of Disney’s four theme parks.

Dallas Special Interest Groups have always delivered great subject matter content for our members involved in a particular industry or area of interest: Manufacturing/Distribution, Private Equity, Technology, Healthcare, Real Estate, Restaurant/Retail, Energy, and the new G.R.O.W. SIG (Growth, Resources and Opportunities for Women). I strongly encourage FEI members to attend these SIG events, and to invite your peers who qualify for FEI membership.

A reminder to FEI Dallas members and sponsors to be sure to watch your email as registrations open for numerous events or visit the FEI Dallas website – www.feidallas.org – to see a listing of upcoming events. These amazing programs and events are the result of a lot of collaboration. Committee members, sponsors, and chapter staff work hard to make this schedule possible. Thank you all for your effort.

The Art of Hello® Professional Branding Be Remembered in a Noisy WorldTM

As professionals we all deserve to be known for our achievements, and to be understood for our value proposition. The Art of Hello is a simple to employ technique for introducing yourself to people in a way that the listener understands the essence of your professional life. It is a powerful way to frame your professional image and for others to recognize you and act as your advocate. Once scripted and perfected, your Art of Hello introduction is a durable asset. It is useful for emerging professionals, for senior leaders, for business owners, for those seeking positions on boards, and job seekers. A well-conceived Art of Hello introduction is the old-fashioned elevator pitch polished up to a professional level with a memorable impact. It differentiates you from others. So simple to recognize when done well, and so hard to make one your own. Paula provides the background, tips and rules and a three-step method that results in you having a professional brand introduction of your own to use, that day. It’s called The Art of Hello.

Strategies to address the new SEC cyber disclosure rule (and how to do it!)

The SEC recently released a new cyber disclosure rule requiring public companies to disclose information about their cybersecurity governance practices as well as impacts associated with material cyber incidents. While they include information on what is required to be disclosed, they don’t address how organizations might design their processes and controls to accurately address those disclosure requirements. One approach may be to utilize the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) cybersecurity risk management framework.
