Dear LNC Parents,
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords parents certain rights with respect to their students' educational records. One of those rights pertains to the release of "student directory" information. Specifically, a parent has a right to opt-in or opt-out of having their student's "personally identifiable information" (PII) shared by federal or state governments for various non-commercial uses.
As your child’s school, North Carolina’s State Board of Education and Department of Instruction requires us to communicate these rights to you and collect your preferences related to the potential sharing of your student’s information by these state and federal entities. If you have questions related to FERPA, click here. Please complete this form by Monday, September 20, 2021 for each of your students who attend LNC. (If you have children who attend an NC public school other than LNC, you should receive similar communication from that public school. Do not complete this form for any student who attends a school different from LNC.)
Finally, if your LNC student has more than one legal guardian, please discuss this, come to a decision and complete just one form for each of your LNC students. If we receive conflicting choices for the same student, we will need to contact the family and they will need to come to agreement.
Thank you for your attention to this required matter.
