The Stephen Evangelista Golf Classic
Benefiting Fairways for Freedom®
Returns to Rhode Island CC, June 3, 2024
|
|
We are happy to announce that the 9th Annual Stephen Evangelista Golf Classic, benefiting Fairways for Freedom®, will be returning to the prestigious, historic and exclusive Rhode Island Country Club, June 3, 2024. Last year, we renamed our annual fundraiser golf tournament in honor of Steve, our longtime friend and loyal fundraising consultant, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in late 2022. Steve also selflessly gave his time to many of our veterans, personally hosting them at his own golf club in Rhode Island the day after our fundraiser, as well as hosting veterans at his club in Naples, FL in the winter.
Please save the date and mark your calendars. This major fundraiser has become extremely popular among golfers in the Northeast, providing much of the financial support for FFF veteran retreats and FFF veteran suicide-prevention programs.
To reserve a spot for yourself or for a foursome before the event is sold out, contact Tournament Chairman and Purple Heart recipient John Pettinelli at j_pettinelli@yahoo.com (202-304-9992) or Roger Schiffman at fairways4freedom@gmail.com (917-921-1381). Emailed updates with details about the event as well as applications will be forthcoming in early 2024.
As in previous years, a number of combat-injured veterans who have experienced FFF trips and retreats will be on hand. It promises to be another memorable day for everyone.
RICC is a picturesque private club located in Barrington, R.I. The 18-hole course is a 1911 Donald Ross design with a combination of parkland, wooded and seaside holes, always in superb condition. The final four holes are located on beautiful Narragansett Bay and provide a breathtaking finish.

Fairways for Freedom®
Announces 3 New Trips for 2023
|
|
|
Fairways for Freedom® is planning three incredible trips next year, each designed for 8 combat-injured veterans and 5-6 sponsoring ambassadors.
In February, FFF will visit for the first time Sea Island, GA. This 6-day, 5-night retreat, includes five rounds of championship golf, including on Seaside (pictured upper left), daily yoga and other mindful activities for veterans with visible and invisible injuries, plus instruction from the Sea Island teaching staff. The group arrives on a Sunday and departs the following Friday.
In June, FFF will be returning to The Equinox Resort in Manchester, VT. This 6-day, 5-night, Sunday-Friday experience features six rounds of golf on four historic courses, including the recently renovated Equinox Golf Club (pictured lower left), a round on Dorset Field Club and Manchester Country Club, two rounds on the exclusive Ekwanok Country Club, instruction from the club's teaching staff, a half-day of fly-fishing, and daily yoga and other mindful activities for veterans with visible and invisible injuries.

|
In September, FFF will return to Wicklow County, Ireland, south of Dublin. Staying 7 nights at the 5-star Druids Glen Resort & Golf Club, the group of 8 combat-injured veterans and 5-6 sponsoring ambassadors will play six spectacular courses, including both courses at Druids Glen (site of the Irish Open), the ultra exclusive K Club (site of the Ryder Cup), Arklow Golf Club, Wicklow Golf Club, and the world-renowned European Club (pictured left).
A limited number of ambassador spots are still available for all three trips. For details, including exact dates, all the courses on the schedules, and ambassador prices, contact Roger Schiffman at fairways4freedom@gmail.com (917-921-1381).

Statistics show that during the holiday season, loneliness increases. As we are surrounded by songs, messages of people getting together with family and friends, and tales of how well people's lives are going, this, however, is not the case for so many of us. Many are missing and grieving close friends and loved ones they have lost.
As we approach this winter's Solstice, Dec. 21, we hope you can help in our efforts to reach out to fellow veterans who might be in their own darkness. Once again, as in years past, FFF will be asking veterans to reach out to others who might be in need. Veterans are pledging to contact, in person or by phone, other veterans they know who might be in a dark place. This might be good idea for all of you—veterans and non-veterans alike—to partake in this worthwhile endeavor. You can make a powerful impact on a veteran's life.
