OLYMPICS MONTH!

I love the Olympics. And the Summer Olympics are my favorite because they include my favorite sport, tennis. VAMOS, RAFA! But back to N. Michigan...have you been in Lake Michigan this summer? It's superb! This month we have the Microbrew and Music Festival, the Suttons Bay Art Festival, the Port Oneida Fair, the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival, and a highlight of every summer: the Northport Dog Parade. Truly. If you have never been, it's a must. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

AUGUST 2016

Organic Tart Cherry Juice Jelly

BRAND NEW! Our Tart Cherry Juice Jelly uses juice from organic cherries that are left on the tree until ripe. This juice, pressed with cherry pits, results in a full-flavored cherry jelly that is fresh and tart.  The cherries for our juice come from Northport's Garthe Farms - one of the first fruit farms in Leelanau County. They actually had a farm-to-table restaurant on the farm over 80 years ago.  The cherries are then pressed at Northern Naturals, a local organic hard cider facility in Kaleva.

Smarty Pins

OMG. I just discovered this and I am hooked. Two of my favorite things (aside from tennis) are geography and trivia. This combines them! This is a Google Maps-based trivia game. See how well you know the world - answer questions and pin point the geographical location correctly. The closer you pin to the actual location, the better! Try it here.

Mama Lu's Taco Shop

There are few things I like more, food-wise, than tacos. I could seriously eat them every day. New to downtown TC, Mama Lu's is delicious!!  Executive Chef John Larson's menu is driven by authentic Mexican street food grounded in a fresh 'made to order' tortilla. You really cannot go wrong with anything you order, but be sure to try the street corn. You're welcome.

Better Call Saul

Did you watch Breaking Bad? Did you love Saul? This is the show for you. In a prequel to BB, Bob Odenkirk is Jimmy McGill (his real name before becoming Saul), a small time lawyer and former scam artist who becomes involved in the criminal world. Odenkirk is fantastic. You find yourself kind of rooting for this guy even though he is pretty much a scumbag. I can't wait for season 2!

Season 1 is currently streaming on Netflix. Season 2 will be out soon on AMC

It's Hot!

Don't add to the heat inside. Try doing chores that use heat generating appliances, like doing laundry, using the dishwasher, or the stove, in the early mornings or evenings when it's cooler outside. When possible use alternatives like cooking outside on the grill or using the toaster oven instead of the stove-top oven. Hang wet clothes on a clothesline instead of using the dryer. Computers can also generate a lot of heat if left running. Be sure to turn them off whenever they are not being used.
