James Moore in his book, Yes, Lord, I Have Sinned, But, I Have Several Excellent Excuses, tells the story of the stagecoach riders of the old west. Did you know there were three classes of stage coach tickets? There were first-class, second-class, and third-class tickets. When the stage coach broke down (which happened often enough), the first-class riders could stay aboard while the others got off. No matter if the coach had to be pushed or repaired, they could remain seated. The second-class ticket holders had to get out of the coach but didn't have to do any work. The third-class riders had to get off and push when the coach broke down.

Rev. Moore says that these three stagecoach classifications fit the ways various people relate to their church as well. Some believe they have a first-class ticket and they sit there thinking they are to be catered to, pampered and waited on. Some believe they are second-class ticket holders. They ride along until there is a problem and then they get off and become detached spectators. They watch while someone else fixes the problem then they get back on and go along for the ride. There are others who live with their third-class tickets. They ride along until there is a problem and then they get off and push, pull, or do what's needed to get the stagecoach moving again. This metaphor begs the question - which one are you?

If I may be bold to say, all of us must ride third-class to the Kingdom of God. Give generously of your time, talents, treasures, and witness. Perhaps, at your age and stage of life, the only gift you can give is money - or time or talents or service or witness. Only you know. If First Farragut is to thrive, and as Christians we are to flourish, every one of us must find ways to become the servants Christ is calling us to be.

Chili Cook-Off & 2019 Operating Campaign Kick-Off

Put on your apron, dust off that cookbook, and get out your crock-pot!

We're going to have a good old-fashioned Chili and Cornbread Cook-Off. There'll be lots to eat - you won't want to miss out! We will also kick-off our 2019 Operating Campaign with a table game at the dinner. Come join the fun!

There's no charge for the night's event but we ask that everyone RSVP so we can make sure to have plenty to eat! Please indicated whether you will bring chili or cornbread to the dinner when registering. Please sign up at the Information Desk or online.

CCD Gift Center
The Gift Center Elf will be visiting adult Sunday School classes soon to ask for monetary donations to purchase $10 gifts for children who attend CCD. Last year we were able to purchase and distribute 250 gifts for children from infancy to age 18!

CCD Donations
Over the years, CCD has been greatly blessed by financial donations from the congregation. If you prefer to make a financial donation to CCD, please mark CCD 2018 in the memo line.

You may also be connected to a business or have fundraising contacts that would support this community ministry. If you need a written letter or more information about CCD, contact Pamela Milliken, pamela@themillikens.com.
