Christian theologian Hans Kung, in his book Global Responsibility, concludes that there is "No human life together without a world ethic for the nations, no peace among the nations without peace among the religions, and no peace among the religions without dialogue among the religions."

That's the entire point of interfaith dialogue. We not only enrich our own faith when we are open to listen and learn from people in other faiths, but we enrich their religion, and by extension, the world. Peace will come not only from the absence of conflict and war, but from the presence of love - love of neighbor - even if that neighbor believes differently about God than we do.

With that in mind, Susan and Clark and the rest of our Church and Society Committee have shared these prayers from religions around the world. May they strengthen and encourage you as you grow closer to God as revealed in Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray, saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who have trespassed against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever.
Amen.

Blessings,
Chuck
Interfaith Gathering - November 11 at 6 p.m.
For the last 6 years, FFUMC has been involved in partnering with the Baha'i of Farragut in an Interfaith gathering for fellowship and/or worship. I've been very blessed to be a part of planning and leading these gatherings since 2014, and hope you will join us for this years' service: this Sunday night, November 11, at 6:00 here at FFUMC.

In a world that is more divided than ever, whether it's politics, religion or other cultural issues, I believe we need to spend time learning from people of other faiths, focusing on our similarities rather than our difference.

Look for a separate invitation in your email soon, with some more of my thoughts on interfaith dialogue.  For now, I'll leave you with this beautiful Jewish prayer:

We pray for all who come here to worship together.
Although differences in thought and belief divide us,
let the desire to serve you,
the love of truth
and the pursuit of holiness unite us.
Strengthen the spirit of friendship
among people of various faiths
and increase mutual understanding between us.
We look to a time
when greater knowledge of you and your word
shall bind all who serve you
into a holy fellowship. Amen.

Blessings,
Chuck
