Safety First

The FGI believes it is important to always put safety first. We’ll be sharing tips often to ensure safety both off and on the job site.

SUMMERTIME SAFETY TIP:   The summer heat can have a severe affect on an employee's body. Prompt treatment of heat-related illnesses with aggressive fluid replacement and cooling of core body temperature is critical to reducing illness and preventing death. Wear sunscreen and lighter colored clothes, pace your outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and know the warning signs.
FGI Launches PDH Certificate Program
The FGI has created a program that offers engineers one (1.0) Professional Development Hour (PDH) of credit for each FGI webinar that is viewed in its entirety. The FGI currently has 14 webinars in its online library and is offering the following 3 live webinars this year: Temporary Landfill Covers (September 10), Lightweight Aggregate (October 15), and Geomembrane Wrinkles (November 12). A PDH certificate will be issued to anyone who attends a live webinar or views a pre-recorded webinar. Each live webinar will be added to the FGI's online library after its initial airing date.

FGI Webinar: Temporary Landfill Covers - Design & Construction

Coal Combustion Residuals (CCRs) Short Course: Current Regulations & Solutions
The Fabricated Geomembrane Institute is offering a one day short course on Coal Combustion Residuals (CCRs): Current Regulations and Solutions. The short course will take place on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at the Center City Building near the University of North Carolina Charlotte campus. Attendees will gain a broad knowledge of current and emerging CCR regulations, local experience managing CCRs, and the advantages of using geosynthetics to manage and dispose of CCRs. Course attendees will earn seven (7.0) PDHs. Lunch and break refreshments will be provided. The short course is offered in collaboration with S&ME, Wood, University of North Carolina Charlotte (UNCC) and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The short course will feature dynamic presentations from representatives of Consumers Energy, Duke Energy, American Electric Power, UNCC, The Ohio State University, Wind Defender, Wood, TRI, DemTech, Leister and S&ME.

FGI Creates New Field Testing Videos

The Fabricated Geomembrane Institute has created an online library of Geomembrane Test Method videos for both factory and field test methods. The FGI recently added two new ASTM Field Testing Videos: ASTM D4437 Air Lance Testing and ASTM D5641 Vacuum Chamber Testing. The FGI's online Geomembrane Test Method Video Library includes the following:

  • ASTM D1204 Dimensional Stability
  • ASTM D7408 Seam Peel Strength
  • ASTM D1790 Brittleness Temperature
  • ASTM D7408 Seam Shear Strength
  • ASTM D5994 Thickness – Textured
  • ASTM D5199 Procedure B – Thickness Smooth
  • ASTM D882 Tensile Properties
  • ASTM D4437 Air Lance
