Parents of Deaf and Hard of hearing students: make sure that your child’s teachers use clear mask to allow for lip reading. This is covered in the IEP under accommodations (communication assistance related to hearing loss only). The cost of clear face masks should be covered under supplementary aids and services. Districts must order and share with schools where DHH students attend in person or virtually. Document your request in “ parents concerns” , make sure it’s provided within short period of time available when school starts. Make sure it’s added under “other” on the accommodation page. On the communication plan document “Lip reading” under “receptive” and include the use of clear mask under action plan section.
