"We Engage, Challenge, and Support Every Student, Every Day"
Principal's Message                                                   Jan. 17, 2020

This past week we hosted the PreACT exam for students interested in preparing for the college application process. This exam benefits students in a variety of ways, including:

1.  Simulates the ACT testing experience within a shorter test window on all four ACT test subjects: English, math, reading and science.

2. Predicts future success on the ACT test, and provides both current achievement and projected future ACT test scores on the 1-36 ACT score scale.

3. Accommodations offered include locally assigned accommodations and available Braille, large print, reader script and audio.

According to the ACT website there are many key benefits of the PreACT exam. These include:

1. Early practice for the ACT test with flexible test administration dates - test on your schedule

2. PreACT score and predicted ACT score ranges align to the ACT 1-36 scale

3. Students may opt to share their information with colleges and scholarship agencies

4. ACT Interest Inventory results provide students with a personalized view of interests with college and career alignment

5. Valuable results provide actionable insights to help educators, parents and students make important decisions for the future

5. Rapid reporting turnaround within 2-4 weeks of receipt of answer documents allows for early and effective planning to ensure students can attain the future and career success they envision

Each year FHHS offers students PreSAT and the PreACT opportunities. If you have questions regarding college preparation, please reach out to our counseling department to schedule a consultation.

Welcome, Jimmy Brady
We are pleased to share that Jimmy Brady has been hired to replace Erika Phillips as the sophomore and senior counselor at FHHS. We are sad to see Erika move on, but her impact here will be felt for many years to come. Jimmy comes to FHHS from EVIT, where he served as both a counselor and a recruiter. He worked most often this year at the Four Peaks EVIT campus, and knows many of our students from their CTE courses. Jimmy is available by calling (480) 664-5522 or by email at [email protected]. Welcome Jimmy!

Planning for the 2020-2021 School Year
This semester, the high school teachers and administration will complete our annual Continuous Improvement Process. This includes several steps and this week we began work on the first which is the Comprehensive Needs Assessment. This is designed to facilitate an internal evaluation of our school and provide data for writing goals. Staff began rating our work on six principles: Effective Leadership; Effective Teachers and Instruction; Effective Organization of Time; Effective Curriculum; Conditions, Climate and Culture, and Family and Community Engagement. Ultimately, we will use the results of our efforts to write goals which will be the foundation for our Integrated Action Plan for the upcoming school year. The staff will be working through the entire process during the months of January and February.

Tax Credit Receipts
There is still time to make a Tax Credit donation to our schools that will reduce your 2019 state tax obligation up to $400 for those who file a joint return. You actually have until April 15, 2020 to donate and have the credit apply to your 2019 Arizona Tax Return. Fees paid for extracurricular activities, standardized testing for college readiness (SAT, ACT) or CTE certification assessments are all eligible for the credit. New for 2019, donations can be made in support of playground equipment or shade structures for playground equipment.

As a reminder, a receipt is needed from the school in order to claim the tax credit. Each school has provided receipts for every known donor who contributed through December 2019. Receipts for donations from January 2020 through April will be provided on an ongoing basis. If you have made contributions from earlier in 2019 and have not received a receipt yet, please contact the school so records can be updated and receipts provided.

Cafeteria News
As we begin the second semester of the school year please take time to check your child's lunch balance.  We all know that students like to buy snacks and other goodies that you as parents may not know about nor planned for that additional spending.  As a result, their account may be much lower than expected, or even have a negative balance.

You can check your child's account via:  https://fountainhillsusd.revtrak.net/
