Home of the Falcons!
"We Engage, Challenge, and Support Every Student, Every Day"
Principal's Message                                                           Jan. 31, 2020

I would like to share with our community that we applied for, and received a site visit for the Arizona Education Foundation's A+ School of Excellence Award. This program is a comprehensive school assessment that challenges school teams to work together to identify areas of excellence in teaching, learning, climate, community building, and leadership. A+ Schools are celebrated and recognized as outstanding. Earning the highly prestigious A+ designation spotlights the positive successes happening in public schools every day. Last year, McDowell Mountain Elementary received this award, and Mrs. D encouraged us to apply. The application encompassed 55 pages of narrative writing about our curriculum, interventions, extracurricular opportunities, and our climate and culture of our campus. We were delighted to be selected as a school receiving a site visit. Our visit will occur in late March, and we are hopeful the committee will see the great things happening at FHHS.

Digital Culture Summer Institute 2020

This program is for students grades 7 through 12. The cost is $350 per week (but it might be less if they get the grant they applied for - fingers crossed).  The camp is called the Digital Culture Summer Institute (DCSI). DCSI is a three week program (with 1 week classes) for middle and high school students to explore topics at the intersection of media arts and engineering. You can see the website is here:  http://summer.digitalculture.asu.edu.

Join faculty and graduate students from ASU's Digital Culture program to engage your artistic and technical sides in a series of short, project-focused courses. Topics include code for games, design thinking, autonomous vehicles, video editing, augmented reality, digital sound design, 3-d modeling, beat making, digital fabrication, animation, and more - see our schedule for this summer's complete list! Our program seeks to spark your creativity while integrating arts, science and engineering. We keep the student-to-staff ratio low, which means lots of opportunities for individualized attention, mentorship and guidance on your projects. Access to state-of-the-art technology like new computers with professional media software and a fully equipped fabrication lab makes this unique camp a great experience for future makers, artists, designers, engineers, and entrepreneurs.

The program is organized into three independent weeks of courses, with a track for High School (grades 10-12) students and Junior High (grades 7-9) students. Each week students select 3 of the courses being offered. Students may enroll for one, two, or all three weeks. Class size is limited and enrollment will be offered on a first come, first served basis.

Powerschool Parent Account
We've had a few parents, more than usual asking how to review grades in Powerschool. Since we do not send report cards or progress reports, it would just be a good idea in general. Parents that do not have an account need to start with step 1 which is contacting the high school,  either Jody, counselors or myself and we can give them a print out with their account password and instructions on how to set up the account in general. I am attaching however, the troubleshooting guide we created for when parents have problems getting access, maybe they created the account before but forgot the password, or they have more than 1 student in the district. This PDF has  screenshots, directions, and info on the mobile app.

The powerschool account is not just about academics, but it also provides lunch account balance, any outstanding balance from the finance office, and attendance alerts if you choose to enable the notifications.
