"We Engage, Challenge, and Support Every Student, Every Day"
Principal's Message                                                           May 3, 2019

We are getting closer to graduation and final grades posting. I have sent a graduation letter to senior parents via email and handed one out to students in Mr. Sunshine's class. Please make sure you read it and call me with any questions. Final exams are scheduled for Wednesday, May 22nd and Thursday, May 23rd. Students will take exams for periods 1, 3, & 5 on Wednesday and periods 2, 4, & 6 on Thursday. School is dismissed at 11:45 am each day for final exams. As part of our graduation week, seniors will be participating in the FHUSD grad walk again. The grad walk allows our seniors to visit their former schools one last time, while allowing the younger students an opportunity to cheer them on and see the importance of being a high school graduate. Parents and community members may attend, but must sign-in at each school and follow their procedures. The grad walk will begin at 8:45 am at McDowell Mountain Elementary and will continue to FHMS after. If you have any questions please call (480) 664-5511 for more information.

With final exams and final grades posting soon, it is important to have a conversation with your child about their progress. Grades are posted on PowerSchool and teachers are available to discuss grades. We have discussed with students several times the importance of getting all their credits and passing all classes. In fact, students who are behind on credits or have failed classes will not qualify for an off-campus lunch pass next year. Our faculty believes that off-campus lunch is a privilege and that students must be in good standing to participate. Juniors who will be seniors next year will also need to be on track to graduate and have no failing grades to have an off-campus lunch pass. We have built into our schedule a 5th period class for students who are behind on credits to get the help the need to get caught up. In addition, since our teachers are available at lunch for extra help, we believe that students who are struggling should be taking advantage of those opportunities. Our hope is that all of our students finish strong this semester and have a restful summer.
